Quote: Tortured Soul "No. He made far too many errors.

Our discipline may have been shocking, but his errors gave away points as well.'"

If you take your blue & white tinted glasses off and analyse his errors as a % they weren't high.

We pushed our look at times at the ruck, made far too many stupid needless mistakes, the Ref wasn't really an issue in this game.

What was Worrincy doing?
- tackled yet tried to carry on
- made no effort to retreat from winger taking high ball
- ripping ball from attacker right in front of ref

Penky
- lashing out for no reason
- getting bundled into touch

You can go on and on, all these weren't Laughtons fault.

The penalty count was massive in our favour for 1st half and massive against us in 2nd due to lack of posession.

Laughton had a shocker. For both sides. His worst being the batley try following on from what should have been a play the ball. Bad enough but worse after he just penalised us for the same thing. Did you hear him ask what the tackle count was before he penalised Rob? Anyway he was bad for both sides.

I'm more concerned about fax's discipline, and have been since last season. I am staggered by the arrogance and petulance from which this indiscipline stems. When batley got their tails up our response was embarassingly arrogant - how dare batley try to beat us? Certainly not the response we want. We had a plethora of talent on display but were shown how to approach the game by batley. Well done to them!

We still have the same problems as last year with discipline and not being able to control a game, but now with the bad taste of arrogance

but in the end it was fax's frustration at laughtons inability to referee fair and consistant, he started well and went down hill fast (and im a referee),

ok.

Our discipline was bad, therefore we conceded a LOT of penalties!

Which penalties should we not have conceded? very few.

Stop getting hung up on Ref's, it made little diff to result tonight!!!!!!

I didnt see the game tonight so cant comment on discipline or ref. However, considering a fair portion of you thought we would lose before tonight, plus we were up against a side who might surprise a few this season (good coach, well drilled team) on a difficult ground, it sounds like a good win to me. Or am I missing something ?? icon_ask.gif

The referee ruined the game tonight.

It wasn't a bad tempered game yet we end up with all those penalties given. Its all well and good to sit there and look at the slow motion replays and say "yeah the ref got that technically correct" but it prevents the natural flow of the game. These referees have to realise that its a fast physical game and a certain amount of tolerance should be allowed.

I dare say if you analysed every tackle you could find something to give a penalty for, but who wants to watch that.
Nobody attends games to watch a referee, but sometimes I'm not sure they think that.

On the plus side we won away and didn't play too well. Well done Fax icon_biggrin.gifANCE:

well some of the terrotory they had in the second half was our making, we tried staying on the man and slow the play down and the ref wasnt taking it, Beswick was the main person for doing this.

i didnt agree with some of the refs calls and if we had lost i would probably be more concered than i am.

the defence can be improved but that will come with games.

now can we all just be happy that we have 2 wins from 2 without even hitting 3rd gear yet.

Bring on the Widnes

Laughton gets worse and is a joke. Instead of letting the game flow he blows his whistle for every little mistake and just turns the game in to a scrappy affair. Neither side were dirty and neither side deserved to have the penalty count so high against them. I hope he chokes one day on his whistle as I have never seen any game on TV or Live that I have enjoyed with him as Ref!

Fax- Disgraceful to be honest. We arrogantly thought we had won and just gave up.We had players not putting in tackles like Beswick. We had players giving away silly penalties- Rob was one with not playing the ball, Wrench giving a facial right in front of the ref and Penky getting involved when no need. Maloney apart I was disappointed with the forwards. We should have hammered the forwards in that second half but they got on a roll and got a couple of tries as a result. Should Black have played? as he did not look 100%. I had hoped Bowman would have played today and for me should have done whether from the Bench or from the off.

If we go out next week with the performance and attitude we played with tonight we will get beaten by a few. Batley were missing a number of players as well. Lets do the basics in attack. Lets sort the discipline out and work hard in defence, especially close to the line.

The game didn't flow that bad > 50 pts scored!

The stops due to pens were blatent in my view, only a small amount were subjective.

All that said we still won, something Widnes couldn't do recently icon_biggrin.gifANCE:

I think we all need to get some perspective here for 50 mins we were very solid and looked slik in attack everybody knows what the slope does at batley its difficult to stop momentum I thought if anything w were guilty of clocking off too early! Thought branno controlled things and we defended our line well

That was a scrappy game in anyones book. i don't think there will be many of those tries in the "try of the season" competition.

Although I will concede that we were our own worst enemies at times.

At the game, that second half was an awful game.

Laughton's one man show reigned supreme again.

I dont know why you guys are bagging fax? We had to do a lot of defending in the second half down the 12 point slope. Penalties get given when you are doing that much defending. Laughton must be a good ref, he got ref of the year. He just clashes with our players. No, I doubt we help ourselves. But the inconsistencies out there were just ludicrous at times.
