Not a fan of the Bonus Point as one thing most people seem to be forgetting is that a team that draws a game - so basically tries to 'get a result' and not get 'beaten' only gets the same reward as a team that loses by up to 12 points.
Thats a team that loses gets the same as a team that draws a match!!!

Great idea - NOT.

I do not see a team of players very often trying to stop the opposition getting a bonus point but I do see a team that will try stop the opposition getting a draw! In the heat of battle do you think RL palyers stop and say hey its more than 12 points lads lets keep them out???
The proof is how many bonus points teams are getting.

Bin it, as others say it rewards failure. If say Haven go down despite winning possibly 2 more games than Dewsbury how would that be fair???

It was important to the team I support last season though because techinically although we still finished 3rd bottom and won 9 and lost 11 and would have been relegated had Gateshead not gone bust.

I read a post on here the other day from a Fax fan who thinks Leigh have no right to be in this seasons Championship. Wonder what that poster thinks of franchising and wether Toulouse should be exempt from relegation.

What was your best home crowd this season incidentally ?

I also wonder if that poster to whom I refer thinks the Championship is better or worse because Leigh are in it or if he thinks it is Leigh RLFC's fault Gateshead went into administration.

When every point matters bonus points are important in my view and keeps the interest in most although not all games for the full 80 minutes.

Now if we went back to promotion and relegation and no exemptions I might change my opinion.

This is not the case, is it?

A bonus point for a side losing by 12 points or less is just that - one point.

However, both sides in a drawn game receive two points.

I stand corrected if I am wrong on this, but am 100% sure that I am not and that the points system for the two Championship leagues is three points for a win; two points for a draw; and then the infamous bonus point for the narrow loser.

You are correct as far as I understand things.

The point of the stats is that the bonus point is meant to make teams try harder. However there is the same ratio of 'bonus point' games in super league as there are in the Championship. Around 40%. So does it really make a difference to the games?

It only seems to make a difference to the table on reflection as in Super League with no bonus point, they try just as hard it would seem to get the win as Championship teams convert games into bonus points.

I don't know why people are still going on about the bonus point, it's part of the rules of the comp we play in and there is one available in every game played at that level, if teams choose to neglect that gift, it's their own fault.
It's the same for everyone.

I'm a proud Dewsbury supporter despite our results. As you'll no doubt guess I'm very much in favor of the bonus point system, as it is currently working in our favor and did so a few years back while Andy Kelly was in charge.

I can honestly say we have in most cases worked hard for the bonus points we have earned for example when playing against the likes of yourselves Barrow and widnes we and other lower positioned teams try to lift our game ensuring we get something from it a win a draw or a BP.

I ask a question and please be honest if you were at the foot of the table trying to survive would you still disagree with it?

Bonus Point, usual daft idea from Red Hall. If a team loses then no points. But if they want to reward a team for losing by 12 points or less why not an extra point for winning by more than say 20

Its a good idea, keeps teams battling to the end even though the game may be lost.
Isn't that what every paying fan wants?

perhaps if we hadn't took a hammering from Fev (a) and Leigh (h) we would like the bonus pt icon_confused.gif:

Win 2pts
Draw 1pt
Lose 0pts

The simplest and the best.Plus it doesnt matter who you support.Last seasons games are history as are the rest of this season.Any true supporters would only want the original scoring system.
If it aint broke dont fix it.Thats the problem with the powers that be in this sport they change the rules all the time.We all know its a farce,so just wait for the next instalment.
Apparently you can't stop progress;I don't see much with the bonus point...its open to manipulation just for starters!!!!

I personally don't mind the bonus point but I think it could be refined as a scoring system.

I think there should be a winning bonus point as well as the losing bonus point so there is four points available in every match.

Win 3pts. lose by 12 or less 1pt = 4pts

Draw 2pts each = 4pts

Win by more than 12 or above = 4pts

There are points for losing by 12 or less but I think there should be points for winning by a certain margin too so you are not just rewarding the losing team battling but the attacking team too.

Don't you mean:-

Win by more than 12 = 4 pts ?

i.e. 3 pts for the win plus a winning margin bonus point.

That sounds far too sensible and fair to be adopted by the RFL.

I believe it was justified to address some of the drubbings that were being handed out by teams selecting which games they could/would compete in.

The rationale being that teams would compete hard in every game because they had a chance of a point even though they knew they were highly unlikely to win. This was intended to make all games competitive and therefore entertaining and retain crowds for those games considered "no contests".

Personally, I don't care what the points system is as long as its the same for everyone.
