| Any news? Is it going to be fixed? Surely it can't cost much to re-lay cement & fittings + install some breeze block toilets. Halifax Town are only 3 games away from a possible tie with a Premier League Club! Would be a shame to see an empty North Stand for this, plus there is the Huddersfield RLFC deal for 2011.

I wonder what Town are going to do for the Mansfield FAC match with the away fans?
I know it will cost a few quid for the Council to fix the North Stand but I really hope they look at the long term picture, with a fully open North Stand the Shay can bid for RL World Cup 2013 games:-

Why not it is a RL town and would draw a decent gate.
Plus Huddersfield Giants could play most of the SL clubs next season when they come down apart from maybe Leeds, Saints and Warrington down here.
That would mean some significant income to pay for the works as they own the stadium now!

As for Mansfield supporters I would guess they will go in the Skircoat.
Oh and the Council have owned the stadium since the late 80's.

Unfortunately I feel Lebanon Vs Russia wont have the town buzzing, the only one worth getting would be Australia vs New Zealand and its more suitable to play that at a bigger ground in the capital, that way all Antipodean bar staff and glass collectors who ran away a break ups with an ex partners can pretend to be RL fans for the day.
It should be finished anyway, we know that the cost of putting things off like this only increases the future cost. The East stand alone cost more to patch up than was ever envisiged to build from scratch, partly because costs year on year, and then you have the normal maintenance jobs on top aswell, there wont be much in council provisions for this unfortunately, they will be too worried about there pensions and bonuses.

| Russia and Lebanon are unlikely to meet in the WC. The 11 seeded teams are
England
Australia
NZ
PNG
France
Samoa
Tonga
Wales
Ireland
Scotland
Fiji
Another Nation rumoured to be Cook islands due to getting to pacific Final after beating Tonga, Samoa and Fiji. However still to be confirmed
Then there are 2 places that will be open to 2 Nations that have qualified. As I understand it they will be
Then Europe (Serbia, Russia, Lebanon and Italy) will have 1 to make it
Then RoW (USA, S. Africa, Jamaica) will see 1 make it

| As a man who lives in t'udders, and practically lives in Halifax, I love the place, and really back you to get into SL next season, as FCHT aren't ever going to get the place buzzing like it is when the RL team's doing well, the town'd respond to Super League, I know it!

Patronising as ever I see Bubba.
Yer the Council have owned the stadium they only leased it to the SST, you know what I meant, they now own AND RUN the stadium okay?
Yes the Mansfield fans are going in the Skircoat.
I still think that it would be a tradegy if for a few thousand pounds the North Stand is left to decay even further and mean the stadium cannot be used for bigger games.
Short sightedness imo.

| I think it would be a good idea getting a local firm involved like Marshalls, however i think it would be wrong to expect them to do it for nothing. If they carried out the work, the stand could be named after them for a set period (sponsorship).
I think the council is really missing a trick here, maybe the stands names should be sponsored, we already have the Southdale Stand and even the rename the ground aswell. I know i maybe shot down in flames by our football fans here, but bigger clubs status wise and financial than both of our clubs have renamed there grounds. It just makes economic sense. People may say Liverpool wont change the name Anfield and Manchester Utd wont change Old Trafford, but you are talking massive clubs that generate more money per game than both our teams put together, they have no need. Clubs who do need the money have done.

I agree with Naming the Stands that sounds like a good Idea to me, However changing the Name from the Shay is not something i think should be looked at, It is and always will be the Shay in my eyes, Home to the MIGHTY FAX !! and i football team, Apparently !!

| I know its a difficult one, sentiment, emotional attachment all tug on them heart strings, to say no its The Shay and will always be, and yes i will always know it as The Shay. But sentiment aside it makes commercial sense to get someone to sponsor the ground. I dont think the council are in a position not to explore every avenue, to help the stadium be self sufficient.
If having all the stands named and having a new stadium name (not the new shay, worse name ever) goes somewhere to help develop the skircoat stand so the ground is completed, then its a scarifice i am prepared to make.
