We the undersigned would like to express our concern for the future of our club SHEFFIELD Eagles. It’s taken 13 years for Mark Aston and his team to recover from being disbanded to where we are today the current CHAMPIONS of the Championship League. He’s worked tirelessly within the community to encourage young people to be involved in the game, some of which have already gone on to play in our first team. Sheffield prides itself on being a City of Sports and now Sheffield Eagles are asking the council to ensure their future is in Sheffield and not in doubt. We would like the council to reassure us that this work has not been in vain and to keep Sheffield Eagles in SHEFFIELD. We are probably the most successful team that Sheffield has had in recent years.
We want the council to help the Sheffield Eagles remain in Sheffield by helping with fundings, like they have offered to help the athletics relocate now the Don Valley Stadium is to be demolished. |

E.glet, before I add my views, explain to me how much it would cost the council to keep Seagulls in Sheffield.
If Eagles stayed in Sheffield how much would your gates increase, for as you say you are the most succesfull Sheffield team in recent years.
Wednesday average gate 21000
United average attendance 16000
Eagles, take away free tickets and corporate 500?
Might suggest that success doesn't transfer into populatity.
What have you got to give the council in return when their budgets are stretched to the limit?
That might be the reason why Halifax MBC will probably sell the Shay to a private company.
Just a thought, or two.

Personally, yes the attendances are down and yes they have struggled to gain interest from the city but RL needs clubs like Sheffield - they have been strong this season and we need teams like this to help strengthen the championship - they bring more to the league than a team like Hunslet.

| I could've bet my house on the top two replies being the first responses and from those users. Absolutely tiresome. If you don't want to sign it, don't sign it. If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all is what I was always taught. The fanbase might not be massive (oh for those huge 1500 crowds Halifax draw) but the club means a lot to those that do attend regularly and have done for many years. Just because supporters aren't great in number does it make them any less passionate? No, of course it doesn't.

It's an official petition on the council website and if it gets so many signatures (maybe 2500?) then it has to be discussed in local government, I believe.
Things are looking promising at Owlerton but things like this only help, so thanks to those of you that do take the time to sign it.

Signed. I can't believe the anti-Eagles comments above. Come on, guys. We've had our own problems in the past and the RL community rallied to our cause.
It would be a real shame if the Sheffield club went out of business, not due to bad management and money problems, but simply because they have nowhere to play.
They are not asking for money, just a miserable signature!

Some people at times let our club down with such comments in my opinion. Sheffield are not asking for money like we did. Sheffield may not have a massive fan base- but neither do we! Sheffield are a club who are not just doing well on the field but do alot of local development work. Does it really matter that just because Sheffield get smaller crowds than us we can so "bugger you"? Come on lets support Sheffield and show them that Fax fans are there when you need them and are a decent bunch. Some of the comments above for me are frankly out of order.
