| Who are the extra 8 teams to make up the numbers?
Halifax, Featherstone, Leigh and Sheffield are the most obvious, but another 4? The Cumbrian sides may be interested but would all 3 be selected? Another French side could be feasible, and possibly look to help develop the french competition at the same time.
Is there a big enough Talent Pool available, no point expanding the game just to keep some aussies from retiring for a couple of seasons. And what about money, is there enough for both leagues to be full time and the teams be sustainable.
Plan isn't a bad one, but plenty needs ironing out of it too!

| It will just be the championship by a different name, with two SL clubs having their income drastically reduced when they drop down. The SL clubs will still make sure they take fattest wedge of the money.
If the RFL are serious about movement between two leagues and creating more professional clubs then they need to maximise income and spread it out more, or the gap will continue to get wider.
Lets hope, if there is to be a "SL 2", it will have more respect offered to it than the current championship does

| For it to work.
Whatever form it takes the finances must be evenly spread across the teams.
Getting the SL clubs to vote for this will be a problem.
If they do.
Then.
Playing standards will dip intially (but not drastically) with a few more of the "star" catergory players going to the NRL, Union or where the bigger money is to be found but this will open the door of opourtunity for others that will be able to make the grade and be satisfied with their lower pay check.
Standards will then level out, (but should still be good to watch) and then start to rise as more players especially the younger talent play in competative enviroment on a regular basis.
Gradually the difficult financial situation the country as a whole is in starts to change for the better and with the game now having new life in it starts to have renewed interest from sponsers, investers and supporters.
Am I dreaming, probably.

| Has any one seen the 'full story' in your local paper.
The same link is on the Wigan board. I posted on there saying pretty much what has been said on this thread. The only way this would work is if the second teer is also full time pro running under the same salary cap with a fair share of income.
Unless the RFL has miraculously pulled in a major sponsor or SKY are looking to offload some cash for tax relief purposes i can't see how it would work. FWIW i hope it does come off.

| There is only a certain amount of money available for anything and only a certain number of benefacters from that money.
Where RL is concerned lets say the current SL suddenly gets a massive cash boost, lets just look at the players wages.
They all benefit from this injection of cash and get " X " number of pounds pay rise.
Question is. How does this add any benefit to the game?
What has actually changed.
Answer. Nothing, it's the same guys playing the same game, their just a bit better off.
Now take the same amount of money and spread it across a wider area.
How does this benefit the game.
Answer. It's now the same guys playing the same game with a lot more added to the ranks, their a bit worse off.
That's why some who can will move on to get more money elsewhere but not everyone will be able to do so.
If there is only a set amount of money available then people will either sign up for it or not.

| Headless chickens could run the sport better than the RFL! They go on about improving standards on and off the field, when in fact they just water it down each year. The latest proposal is mad.
Where are the 24 Clubs? Fax, Fev and Sheffield maybe plus Toulouse might be able to do it but then who? Leigh are buggered. Batley? Who are skint and struggle to get 1000 people to turn up at most games.
Minimum Standards should be brought in if any team wants to play in or stay in SL. Cant meet them then play in the Championship which is not a punishment but a good way to rebuild. Any team wanting to play in SL in whatever form should be forced to run a reserve/U20s plus U18s.
I love Fax but I also love the game and the proposal that I have seen will make things even worse in the game. If Fax are strong enough to run reserve and academy grades and are good enough on the field then we deserve a crack at SL- same for Fev and Sheffield etc. If however we are not prepared to do things properly we dont deserve to be in. Its that simple. Keep things as they are with P & R with minimum standards also involved

| Sadly I suspect it's something the RFL have cobbled together, based around P&R. They put it to SL chairmen, who, own interests paramount, reject it.
The RFLcan then turn around and say "we offered P&R and it was rejected. Normal service resumed.
There's nothing to see here

| If there is to be a re structure of the leagues the one thing that should happen is that all the clubs get a vote but that won't happen then we may get an outcome the will make all the competitions better and worthwhile for everyone and not just the 14 S/L teams

I think the Super League Chairmen will go for it, last year Brian McDermott told us at a Faxbuilder do that there were too many clubs in Super League, this week Tony Smith has said the same, going further and saying there are too many pointless games in SL, a reduction of two teams will mean 4 less pointless games.
The chance of promotion will certainly bring more fans to the Shay and to some other clubs, promotion would bring even more as would the away support.
Some moan at the present set up, some moan at the proposals, we are going nowhere now so lets give it a try. (whatever it is)

p.s I will support Fax in whatever set up and I will support and respect any decisions our board make.

| Full article on line now - basically 2 teams relegated from SL, the top 9 Championship sides + Toulouse to make up SL2. The 2 divisions will then split into 3 divisions of 8 halfway through the season, with the final league placings then deciding the make up of the 2 divisions the following season - so P&R by any other name!!

I really hope this isn't the case.
Never before has there so much unrest in the sport.
The Watkins report for one thing did not sweep things under the carpet.
Brian Barwick coming onboard is another factor because if someone like him with his sporting experience and connections can't make or influence the right decisions then we are in for a difficult time.
