| Personally I think Rettie is lucky to only get 4 games. We can use this weekends game for Ashall and one of Retties games.

Please can someone with a good working knowledge of the rfl disciplinary system tell me what the difference is between these
www.therfl.co.uk/disciplinary/item?3684
www.therfl.co.uk/disciplinary/item?3354
And yes the grades are different!!
But genuinely, how can there be a difference between strikes - headbutt, and headbutt? Surely it should all fall under the same grade? And this isn't a case of Rettie has been hard done by, Dickens wasn't, Fax v Fev, etc, it was an example of another player being found guilty of what I think is a similar offence. Rettie was found guilty so 6-8 matches is sufficient. But can anyone explain how the grading works in these instances? Thanks muchly

I can only think that Dickens must have a smaller/softer head.
Alternatively, Reittie was referred to a tribunal but Dickens' case was heard by a, presumably more lenient, "tribubal".

| just read the disciplinary for maun. It says he just got involved in a confrontation with opponents which they say is sin bin sufficeint. But for ashall, (who in my opinion just dropped on a a player who had not been tackled, to have maun then start punching him) he gets a match ban for striking. How is that fair?

i thought he dropped on the untackled player in an aggresive way. i dont think he punched him or hit him high.
the way the game was boiling over at that point it was daft! but didnt warrant a suspension.
we're not playing tiddlywinks!
at least hell be available for Keighley though.

Oh he definately punched the untackled player whilst he was on the ground. No drama with him getting a one match ban, as we can run this ban out with the french game.

It would be nice to understand it because I don't either, like you I think these are totally inconsistent. Does anyone know if it the match commissioner or referee (or someone else) that decides on what the grading should be? Since it appears to me that these gradings are not only inconsistent, but also do not fit the crime a lot of the time. For example how Dickens incident at the shay can be compared as the same grading as the Chase forearm smash on Roparti and the Rettie one deemed worse than both (though to be fair I have not seen the later) I find difficult to conceive.

From the disciplinary guidelines"The decision on whether a player should be charged with misconduct is made by the Match Review Panel (the “Panel”).
The Panel is made up of the Compliance Manager (who chairs the Panel) and usually 3 side members drawn from people with appropriate expertise (such as former players, referees and coaches).
In relation to each round of Super League Matches (or Challenge Cup Matches involving Super League teams), each match is reviewed in full by a member of the Panel to identify incidents which should be considered by the Panel. These incidents are then considered by the Panel on the Monday morning following that Round and the Panel decide what action should be taken in relation to the relevant player(s).
In relation to each round of Championship Matches, Northern Rail Cup Matches or Challenge Cup Matches solely involving Championship teams, the Panel meet on the Thursday following the Round in question and consider any incidents that have been reported by Match Officials or otherwise brought to the attention of the Panel."[/i

| It strikes me (no pun intended) that you don't get suspended if you've been sent to the sinbin.
So if Blind Freddie doesn't see it with his flag then you get a harsher punishment.
Maun got ten minutes in the sinbin; Ashy one game.

| Ashall got off liightly in my opinion (and he's a player I rate a our best close season import) he basically dropped on and then punched a defensless player. What happened subsequently was largely provoked by his action.i

Thanks for this. So the decisions are made by people with good knowledge of the game. But does anyone know how the decisions on grading are made? How can one headbutt deemed to be less serious than another? How can there be three different suspensions for three red cards for the same offence in the Wigan v Saints game? I haven't seen that fight so don't know who started it but i'm guessing retaliation was part of it?
Anybody know?
