he does wear socks, just not knee length football socks, he wears trainer socks.
dont think there is any rule that states the socks have to be a certain length!

A few players in the past have worn them down at their ankles. Johnny Lawless at Fax, and Webster at Widnes currently. |

I'm almost certain that at one time clubs & referee's were instructed to advise players that shirts were supposed to be tucked into shorts and socks pulled up properly to be correctly dressed.
Maybe that has gone by the wayside in recent years.
