The "shoulder charge" is a ridiculous part of our game & I'm glad it's being outlawed.

Sorry Colin, on this occasion I can't agree, it's a contact sport and as long as the contact is not to the head I can't see the problem.

That is quite frankly embarrassing getting sin binned for that.

The clown in suits have gone way over the top with this. Its a skill and a good shoulder charge is a beautiful thing and can be match changing. When its done badly then it should be an automatic 8 games or more ban. The vast majority of fans, players and coaches all want in and yet the clowns ban it. The Coaches and Players have strongly suggested dropping the interchange down to 8 or even 6 so players are not so fresh and will lessen the impact in shoulder charges. This suggestion has been ignored at by the clowns who only want what they want.

I actually agree with the powers that be for once . I think it's dangerous and at the end of the day it's not a tackle . A tackle should be made with arms and not shoulder .

We all loved Makali's big hits, but most, if not all, would be classed as shoulder charges. However, they did cause injuries, even though his technique was good enough to avoid being penalised.

Now he'll be playing against us, I think this is probably a good thing for us!

I agree that we do need to differentiate between blocks with the shoulder, and those that involve a conscious forward movement towards the ball carrier though.

Any tackle is dangerous to be honest. And I bet there are more injuries due to poor tackling technique like having thead in the wrong place than from shoulder charges. Rugby League is a very high speed collision sport-probably the toughest team sport due to the force on impact of tackles. Shoulder charges are OK as long as they are away from the head/neck area and should be part of the game. Why should a tackle be made with arms? Does it mean its safer? No as I know many people who have sustained bad injuries even when performing or receiving a tackle with the arms. Every time a player walks out he knows he is expecting to be hit hard and maybe face a shoulder charge. He knows the risks and is part of the thrill of playing when you can smash somebody. And if you think the League shoulder charge is dangerous what about an uncontrolled Union scrum that rotates and has seen a number of players paralyzed? What about Aussie Rules where you get people running full force into you from the back is that not dangerous? I am of the opinion players know the risks when they play. They should sign an agreement that a shoulder charge in the neck/head area is 8 game ban and that if a player is badly injured he cant sue the game. I get the feeling this is just a legal matter rather than anything else and certain people are going over the top with it.And whats the difference between a shoulder charge and the second/third man coming in and smashing a defenceless attacker? I dont think its going to be very easy for a ref to decide what a shoulder charge and whats actually a strong robust tackle around the upper body.

What I dont understand is or should I say frustrated with is once again we have a rule in Australia thats announced there but not by the RLIF. It makes our sport a joke. Any rule changes should be world wide and be ONLY announced by the RLIF in conjunction with all federations. At amateur level the rules should be the same as Pro except where situations means its hard to officiate a rule- like the 40/20 one. The game has so many different versions from Australia, Britain, International etc. No wonder the match officials struggle sometimes. A united rulebook and one where its the same as in Australia, NZ, USA etc.

Although I disagree with you lucky black cat re the shoukder charge , II totally agree when you mention how we always follow the Aussies . 40-20, sin bins , play off systems etc . No doubt we'll have two refs per game shortly . What Australia wants Australia gets

2 refs, we struggle to 1 decent one most weeks, and I doubt the RFL can afford it.
