It's true, we lose the chance of an average of 20 metres on every penalty we get. Luke in particular plays it far too safe in terms of distance.

They reflected the theme of the game, Fev chanced their arm at every opportunity, we played within ourselves.

Of late our kicking has been good. Branighan had so much to do tonight, don't think you can really blame him.

Rubbish, we chanced our arm & kicked out on the full early in the game from a re-start.

Inexcusable on our own pitch. In comparison with the usual game we play, we were very Conservative due in part to Fev's awesome defence.

Flawed arguement.

Its not the sort of mistake Paterson usually makes though, even you must admit it is a shocking mistake for someone to do on their home ground. Remember last season every kick off we went short as we tried to get the ball back, that is chancing your arm.

A coaches job when defences are awesome are to do the basics right, complete your sets of 6 and play percentages and have a good last tackle kicking game to break a defence through a skillful kick & maybe a lucky bounce of ball on last tackle. Unfortunately, a Calland coached side don't usually get to the last tackle!

it usually worked for us as well. we have stopped doing it though, maybe we should go back to it more, sometimes kicking for the guarentee of territory is a good option. the kick off though is the same every time.

I love the fact that we are a team that plays right on the edge, chanceing our arm at every opportunity. Throwing hospital passes left right and centre. But when it comes to kicking for touch it dosnt look like we have anyone who can make more than 10 yards. There was a chance in the first half when we got a penalty to stick it right down in the corner of the new stand. Fev had no one back and worst case scenario was the ball goes dead and we get it back from a 20 metre drop out. Instead we end up attacking 10 yards further up field. Makes you wonder if we even practice the basics.

As a matter of interest, are you still allowed to place kick a penalty (to touch)? I seem to remember players doing it a lot at one time. It would certainly allow greater accuracy.
