So we've binned the reserves because of financial reasons, but we've kept the coaches on and we've brought in another assistant coach in Sheriffe. And the previous reserve players are still on contracts with the club.

I don't see where we've saved money here other than coach hire, stewards and game bonus payments.

As the board have said as well as the cost, which would be substantial with a squad of at least 22, finding players of sufficient quality to compete with super league teams is likely impossible. Many of them have large full time squads already so a bunch of young lads could be playing against full time internationals as well as the cream of the young players from their academies.

The board needs to ensure the club survives and not go bust again and are it seems being realistic about the reserves.

The player pool is small and will be unless the game keeps expanding from the traditional areas as well as working at keeping schools offering the game in counties where the game is already fairly strong.

Not to mention that we announced Muzza as assistant coach last season. I guess that’s not happening now. The reality is it probably won’t save the club any money as the drop in funding as people no longer put money in will see to that.

It’s not only about money which everyone knows is tight and will no doubt get tighter when Super Greed take even more of the central funding, the clubs that cut their cloth accordingly now will be better placed when that happens.

An alternative analysis could be.

After much thought and careful scrutiny of how the club currently stands, problems with player availability and the potential welfare of those who are available and with the need for the first team squad to be as competitive as possible it is with great reluctance that at this point in time HRLFC have taken the difficult decision not to run a reserve team in the 2020 season until further notice.

So they will all play for the Bulls via DR to a club who will then loan them out to another club. That makes sense
