They're not extraordinarily high, though, are they ?
Take off your blue and white tinted glasses and you'll see that the ground's in a very poor state of repair. Caused, in part, by throwing money at winning a championship in 2009, by breaking the salary cap rules. Part of the reason for the cap is to have clubs spend some money on players and leave some for other things that need paying for. Floodlights, for example.
Sorry if the truth hurts. Get real.

It doesnt hurt at all .... what went on before means nothing now as disco des has left us nearly 1/2 million in debt. so much for buying sucess eh ?
We supporters and the new BOD know it needs money throwing at it not only the floodlights but other aspects of the ground as well. With the new toilets and kitchens built before the start of last season on the popular side a start has been made. it will be a long road but the club is giving it its best shot. Maybe we should sell it and move to a souless all plastic seater stadium on the outskirts of town....errr no ta, I will carry on watching RL being played in a traditional type ground (unless its a night game in which case we wont be able to see anything...lol).
Look forward to coming to the Shay .... a great ground that the Raiders can only aspire to!

Good post Morty. It's a real shame what was allowed to happen up at Barra, good luck for the future.

I remember saying that it would all end in tears on your forum back in 2009 and getting dog's abuse. What a great bloke Des was back then!!

Good. I like to see clubs progressing. Sport is an unusual business in that you need strong opposition as well as being strong yourself. Not sure why you reckoned LBC's standards were "extraordinarily high" though, given what you say in this most recent post.

I started this post as a little light hearted banter. Yes some grounds are bad but that's not the fault of the supporters. Barrow is poor but it's a great day out. Wetherspoons up the road a night in the lakes. I wish all the traditional clubs well, I would much rather them than teams who (in my humble opinion) offer nothing to our game.
Seconds out griffs about.

Craven Park may not be the 'smartest' ground in the league, but it is one I am looking forward to visiting again next year, I really missed the trips to Cumbria last year, so much so some of us took in the Barrow v Haven game towards the end of the season.
The fans really copped for the brown end of the stick up there in the aftermath of the Des Johnston affair.
What the fans have donethough, in pulling together finances to pay for some improvements to the ground, and making sure that that is where the money went should be applauded
Roll on next season!!!

Jeez - apologies for thinking there's more to running a club than just winning games.

I said it has been a while and last time I was at Barrow around 4 or 5 years ago the toilets were poor and the lights were not up to standard and the ground was old and for me needed to be upgraded. Maybe somethings have changed but it doesnt seem like it. We are nearly in 2013 and for me stadiums at this level should have proper toilets that are not broken or dated. The lights should be good so that we can see whats going on properly and not guess in the dark! The Shay is by no means perfect but it is a decent stadium which the club has helped to update as well as the soccer lot and council. Its not been easy though. Barrow had a money man who like most in Pro rugby wasted money on players instead of investing in the ground and the future. And thats a RUgby League problem with its short term thinking. My view is nothing against Barrow and hope they do well. But equally I wwant ALL clubs to keep improving the grounds as well
