David Holmes was indeed a very talented player, i remember him coming on taking the ball from the scrum and getting it to the wing like a bullet. Dont think Wilf could handle passes like that.
One thing he was easy to spot with his blond hair (should me more colour coding!! players are starting to look all the same or is it just my age and eye sight?)

No John it was Cawoods from Ull. Heworth's in Yarrrrk.
Longstaff reputedly signed at 17 year old for a £50 K contract and was a Javelin thrower who was working under Wilf Paish at the time. Wilf had done some sprint coaching with the 'Fax team around that time.
Longstaff's father Paul was a brilliant loose forward with HullKR & Rochdale as far as I can recall. Lovely bloke too.
