Don't really read much about the fella not being in the town but the last paragraph in the article perhaps sums up his lateral thinking towards what The Shay is (that it's soley for sport) and his lack of astute business sense.
Again, I'm only going off one article, but he doesn't seem to be offering a solution to the problem with what's in front of him which is of course a community stadium which can now be used for sport and community events as well are business conferences and work seminars.
I'm sure he'd be better served to council expressing ideas to help the place rather than knocking down a place, that's just had £3m (?) spent on it, 4 years after it was built.
Also if he's looking for advice from Eric Pickles, he just ok'd a council run stadium in York to be built so I'm guessing such facilities aren't to much of a concern to the national government.

I have e-mailed Councillor Stout and asked him two specific questions:
1. Is he aware that a prominent local businessman made an offer to buy the Shay Stadium from CMBC over a year ago at a formal meeting attended by a senior Council executive which was not a derisory offer?
2. Is he aware that the general public and businesses are deterred from hiring the East Stand facilties due to the extortionate refreshment costs?

In fairness, Micky Mouse could have made an offer to buy the stadium. The question is how much was the offer, on what terms, etc. I think the Shay falling into private ownership could potentially lead to a very dangerous future for both clubs and it is not something I would like to see happen.
As for your second question, the Council dropped a bollock when they employed the services of a middle man to run the East Stand facility and I hope they look to take it back inside when the EMC contract renewal is due.
