Martin's gone, and it was his ultimate responsibility, but who should have done the job of checking such as this while he was away? We haven't always had a Director of Football. Surely there are procedures, check lists or manuals to follow on issues such as this?

Didn't the RFL saythey would see if any more punishment was needed to be meted out following the conclusion of the Fax internal investigation? Hope we've heard the last of this.
Now, Fax have done their bit (or rather Martin has), who at the RFL is going to fall on their sword as a portion of the blame must go to the numpties at the Red Shed.

I think its a very fair comment. The RFL seem to have done a good job of passing all the blame onto Fax when its clear that either a) there are the right systems in place to avoid such a mistake or b) if there is the right systems in place then someone wasnt doing their job correctly.

Takes a big man to do what he has done and step down to save his mate. I guess the ramifications of his reignation wont be known till later on down the line.
You have to ask though that you must presume that the club knew he was away in which case like Yob says, whose job was it to do all the paperwork etc.

To me this is a sad sad turn of events. MH did an awful lot behind the scenes that he rarely got public credit for and his influence in signing some top players seems to have been overlooked by many of his detractors on here. Unless we can replace him with someone equally influential, this could be the most damaging of recent events to the club long term.

At least the money we have lost through being out of both cups will be minimised by the savings on Hall's and Clay's salaries.

.... I don't think they received a salary from the club, and indeed put money in when needed. If that's true I can't see how the club can afford replacements.
