Pathetic & unacceptable are words I would use to describe the continual verbal exchanges between HRLFC fans & FCHT fans.
Pathetic & unacceptable are words I would use to describe the way that Calderdale MBC have handled this whole rent issue.
Pathetic & unacceptable are the words I would use to describe the Halifax Evening Couriers reporting of this whole farce.
Pathetic & unacceptable are words, with regret, that I would also use to describe the actions of Halifax Rugby League Football Club in respect of the rent agreement at The Shay. To simply state that ‘we are paying what we feel is right’ is absolutely ridiculous. Fax may well be paying too much, and the fact that they are paying more than the other team that plays there may also be a valid reason for dispute. HOWEVER you do NOT go about it in this way.
I am a season ticket holder of both clubs, I have followed both clubs both home and away for the last 27 years. My passion for both clubs is massive but in equal amounts.
Firstly whatever rent agreement is in place between Football Club Halifax Town and the owners of its ‘home’, Calderdale MBC is of absolutely no concern to Halifax Rugby League Football Club. Mr Steele’s recent comments about the tax payer subsidising Football at the expense of Rugby League is one of the most disgraceful comments I have ever heard. Frankly it is no wonder that a large section of the ‘Shaymens’ support bear such a grudge towards our Rugby Club.
I do wonder why suddenly, on the back of the death of Halifax Town AFC, that Halifax RLFC are no longer able to pay the £4,000 per month that they were paying (along with the Football Club) for quite a considerable period of time. I am also thankful that a new Football Club was formed as it is quite clear that Halifax RLFC could never afford to be the only team based at the Shay, despite the ridiculous claims made by the Fax board some 18 months ago that this would not be a problem!!
I have taken a back seat from this debate as much as possible and have never contributed to these types of forums before but I am just sick to the back teeth of hearing about it and sick to the back teeth of reading and listening to the constant bickering between sections of BOTH sets of supporters. The only people to come out with any credit over the last 18 months or so are the current board & directors of the newly reformed FC Halifax Town, they appear to be doing a very fine job indeed & long may it continue.
The way I see it (and it has today been mentioned on the Football Clubs forum by a usually anti Fax contributor) – Halifax Rugby League Football Club needs FC Halifax Town to make renting the Shay viable. In turn FC Halifax Town need the Rugby Club. These are the simple facts.
Calderdale MBC needs both clubs to make the Shay viable but also needs to come up with a method of obtaining a satisfactory rent while at the same time not crippling the finances of either club.
Calculating a figure will be difficult. I really don’t think that the answer is a simple case of both clubs pay the same. It has got to be viable for both clubs AT ALL TIMES. We cant have a situation where one Club cant meet its rent demands as this makes the Stadium as a whole un-viable. As this particular poster has suggested on the Football Forum, both clubs will have constantly fluctuating incomes and the situation needs constant review. Why not have a system where each club pays a percentage of its match day income – for arguments sake 12.5%. That way there is no arguments – both clubs pay 12.5% of income to play at the Shay. Im sure there are pro’s and con’s to this idea but it’s the best I have heard yet and there will be an end to ‘you play more games than us’, ‘you have 26 players on the pitch, ‘we only play for 80 mins’ PATHETIC!!!!!! Get it sorted out!!
All I want to see is the Shaymen back in the Football League (or non leagues top flight at least) and Halifax RFLC back in Super League. It’s a damn fine good job that Super League Licences are not being handed out next week that’s all I can say. The only thing we have going for us is the ground (which has not cost us a penny) and we stand to make a mess of that too!! Sort it out Clay & Steele – NOW. No more economising with the truth, no more putting things off until next week or the week after that. And no more bringing FC Halifax Town into the equation. Get it sorted..
The fans deserve better.
Oh Hali Hali Hali Hali Hali Hali Hali Fax & Come on Shaymen.
