Quote: The Dors "Kicks in play were good and defence was committed all over the park. Sheffield looked poor but we were worse in all fairness. Some dumb penalties gifting them filed position, wayward passes when it mattered on their line and 2 errors lead to 2 scores. Spoiling tactics were out in force from the opposition as well which got more than annoying.
A fairly dire game from a spectator point of view all in all but we'll get better.'"
At this time of the season no team will be perfect. You mention spoiling tactics by Sheffield, but 'Fax are not innocent.
Ever thought the wayward passes could be the result of pressure by the opposition?
Many comments have gone on about preparation and team members. The same applies to all teams, and you have to play with what you have got available, and if you lose, then the team who wins had a better team on the day. Eagles have several players still to return, it was only the 2nd competitive match of the season and having had 2 pre-season games, not ideal preparation after our players had to come from various parts of the north, some from PNG and Aus and even over the Pennines.
Getting stuck in traffic is not a new experience for any team. The way the game is played depends on their ability to cope with the "pressure"
Fax have been guilty, just as much as every team as giving away dumb penalties in the heat of the moment and lacking concentration when they should be focused.
Refereeing decisions are continuing to be a concern at all matches in the NRC and SL and sometimes I along with many many others, do not see how the officials translate the rules of the game on paper into the actions on the field. No-one is perfect, none of the players go through a game without making errors, because they are human, so are the referees (allegedly), so mistakes in making decisions cannot always be placed at the door of the ref.
Eagles beat 'Fax comprehensively at The Shay last season, and at DVS. The size of the pitch moan is tiring as it is the same size it has been snce 1991 when the first RL game was played on it. It has NEVER changed, even when the "Blue Sox" played on it in SL days and before, so PLEASE will folks stop going on about it. There are FAR WORSE pitches in the SL and Championship.
At least it is flat, it does not have dangerous concrete/metal fencing surrounding it, it is a complete ground and everyone is seated. The running track is a nuisance, but it is better to have a ground than not.
