This. I don't think Hull fans have anything to lose sleep over if he does go.

| Quote: Arkham "Are you willing to sacrifice the regular season to mediocrity, just to see a more competitive international showing at the end of the year? I can certainly understand that it's important to be competitive, but a mass exodus of all our brightest talent to the NRL leaves us watching games throughout the season without the magic that names like Tomkins, Briscoe, Roby etc. provide. I personally see it as a catch-22 situation.'"
I don't know if I accept that argument personally. Quite a few people believe SL is the superior competition in terms of excitement because of the less structured, attacking play. That's in spite of the fact the NRL is obviously the superior competition with superior players, capable of superior magic.
Without Tomkins, Briscoe, Roby etc the type of play will remain the same and they'll always be new players to step up.
Tomkins is in a league of his own, but Roby and Briscoe are hardly irreplaceable! Exciting players have been replaced before and they'll be replaced again.

| My first loyalty is to my country and not my club side. mediocrity at Hull?? we have been that for years. Him going will not make a jot of difference to that. If he and the other players become better playing in the NRL then my country will compete better and that would suit me. In fact I would take an International Final win for GB/Eng over the Kiwis/Roos over any cup win for Hull.

| Briscoe will go fine in the NRL. I think he'll have an Ellis type impact (or the equivalent for a winger) - one of the club's better players, well appreciated by the Shark fans but maybe not always spotted as a superstar and hyped about all the time like Graham last year. He won't be a Uate, Morris, Nightingale... but let's be honest the quality of wingers isn't that great over there, test teams seem to want to use centres or fullbacks half the time.
Looking forward to seeing more of Lineham, he looks absolute class and not too dissimilar to Briscoe to be honest, quite surprised he isn't a starting winger already.

Australians have always used Centres and Fullbacks as Wingers unless there is a stand out wingman, its been that way for a long time.
Unless a Winger is an absolute stand out specialist finisher the ones that do well tend to be brought into the play more as Centres or Fullbacks like Folau or Matt King.
At Rep level its not uncommon to see three fullbacks in a team as they are deemed to have a better rounded skill set and versatility than an out and out Winger.

I think it's more that the players who make decent wingers also happen to move to a more relevant place in the team to get them involved more; whereas wingers are liable to stay as wingers over here. Hall, Charnley, Briscoe etc could have been shifted to centre or full-back; indeed Briscoe and Charnley have both shown good potential in other positions. If we were more like the NRL with players moving about more, FBs getting paid significantly more, I wouldn't be surprised to have seen Briscoe and Charnley moving to other clubs to play at FB - and so on (obviously there are more than those 3 but they do stand out).

| I am not sure if Fullbacks get paid more.
There is obviously a direct correlation with skills and positions in a back line.
The further you are on the end of the line the less you need in reading a game or decision making.
Halves feed Centres, Centres set up Wingmen, Wingmen have the least decisions to make in a back line.
A skilled Centre or Fullback has more going for them than the average Winger (unless they are Eric Grothe or similar)

| hope the club use the extra money to target and sign a top scrum half, we have a replacement winger, its half back that has been our achilles since paul cooke left, and we've not really had a top (fit) scrum half in the superleague era

| I don't and never have seen world-class winger signs around Tom Briscoe. Yes he's very good, don't get me wrong, but I don't think he'll set the NRL alight like people are anticipating. I'm not disheartened if he goes, every young English footballer should want to try their hand in the NRL, and in Tom Lineham I believe we have a ready-made replacement, who if he continues to develop, could be special.

| He may not be world class at this moment in time, but his try saving tackle yesterday was something very special. They wont show it on the highlights but it was a 'World Class' piece of defending
