| Cavaliers held to draw in hard-fought thriller,
On Saturday 12th June 2004 the Oxford Cavalier rlfc played Telford Raiders rlfc in the South West Division in their first-ever trip to Shropshire in the Total RL.com Conference.
Fortunes see-sawed through out the 80 minutes, with Cavaliers taking a two-point lead into the last five minutes, onlyto concede a penalty with seconds remaining. With the tied, Telford then threw everything at Oxfordin the daying moments, only to seea field goal attempt sail wide of the upright. Oxford welcomed back ex-university skipper James Kent at full back, but were dealt a blow when scrum half Adam White, was hospitalised after ten minutes with a bad gash to the head.
Neither side managed to gain control in the the first half, the forwards cancelling each other out and the backs exchanging two tries apiece. However, Oxford upped the stakes in the second half Shaw and fijian winger Li, along with two Gould conversion and a penalty,gave them a narrow laed in the closing stages. But they could not keep the Raiders at bay and has to settle for a draw.
