| Quote Neil HFC="Neil HFC"You should, just once, for comedy value. I'd also recomened a couple of Al Franken Books ("Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations", and "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right"). The latter of which Fox sued over, not due to content, but to the use of "Fair and Balanced" that they had claimed to have copyright/trademark on.'"
Both excellent books. I second Neil's recommendation. He absolutely nails the myth of the 'liberal media' to the wall.

| Quote kirkstaller="kirkstaller"See my previous response to Sheldon.
You know, you can get a free copy of a 1611 KJV if you contact the Trinitarian Bible Society. You can perhaps then educate yourself out of ignorance, and hopefully a light inside your head might turn on.'"
I understand completely, you cherry pick the parts of the bible that you agree with and ditch the parts that you don't, it is after all, the great big book of multiple choice.
I think a seventeenth century book based on the supersitions of bronze age desert nomads is unlikely to "educate myself out of ignorance" as you put it. If anything religion has actively made ignoramuses of humans being for far too long. I'll stick with my OU BSc thanks.

| Quote kirkstaller="kirkstaller"With all due respect, this is a classic ignorant atheist response. No wonder Christians suffer such a torrid time when no one makes any effort at all to understand our theology.
Your comment about seafood has absolutely nothing to do with me, and I can give you 2 good reasons why this is so. Firstly, I presume you are referring to Mosaic law as laid down in Leviticus. In that case, you ought to know that that law only applied to Jews following the Exodus. That dispensation has now passed and we are currently under the law of grace. I am a Gentile, not a Jew. Even if I lived in ~3000BC this law would not apply to me.
Secondly, the New Testament (you know this was revealed later, right?) says that no foods are forbidden. Check out Paul's letters - all food is now clean.
I suggest you re-examine the scriptures before you make silly remarks like the one addressed above.'"
And the goal posts move again.
Lets face it by classic ignorant responses you've wrote the book.
Can I ask which law the "Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable." quote comes from? Is that not Leviticus 18-22?

It is, though please don't fall into the common trap of thinking this is why Christians oppose gay relations.
Like I said, read the Pauline epistles.

| You'd have to accept that he wrote them and that the stories had been passed down correctly after a few generations.
If people far knowledgeable on the subject than either you or me can't decide how can we begin to accept them? And if you do do you accept them all?
If you banish the Old testament do you not believe in the self fulfilling prophecy?

| Surely the only bits to be ignored are the ones that deal with Jews? Bits about the King Of The Jews in the second bit are fine, naturally.

If someone wants to know Paul's opinions maybe they should do that.
Or, maybe Jesus (God on Earth) wasn't quite good enough at getting his point across, so Paul had to pick up the baton.

At very best they were written 60 years after Jebus' death, Paul wasn't there nor did he know Jebus.*
*That's if Jebus existed, it can't be certain.

| We shouldn't criticise "Christians" for being selective about which bits of the OT and NT are "true" ... Paul did that particular pick'n'mix literally ages ago.
What beats me is how they choose which tub-thumper's selection to believe.
Jesus? Paul? The Borgias? Ratzinger?
If God created us all and wanted to send us a message, I'd have thought he'd have made it straightforward enough for us to understand.
Or did the great omniscient forget that we aren't omniscient too?
