There are such things as unfair contracts and perhaps more pertinently (possible) misrepresentation. IFmisrepresentations were made to the OP when he was sold the package (and in my experieience of certain industries, of which this would be one, that is highly likely) then the OP perhaps could argue that those oral representations were instrumental in his signing the agreement and he relied on them as being a true representation of the contractual terms. |

Sadly, True.
As I understand it, the reason being is that they only have the one 3D channel, so if they say show some sports event in 3D, then that is normally followed by a 3D movie, and they struggle to differentiate as to who has subscribed to what service, Sports or Movies, so only currently availabe to those who have both.
I have been informed that they are planning a 2nd 3D channel, one to be dedicated to Sports, the other one to Movies. So then, us sporty types will have access. I'm not sure of the time frame, though.

I doubt a clause allowing a company to increase their prices will be seen as an unfair contract when the maximum length of that contract is one year. |

So you seriously consider that one month into a contract, it is reasonable and fair for one party to the contract to arbitrarily alter the terms of the original contract? |

Sky always put there prices up at that time, I don't have a Sky contract to look at but I wouldn't be surprised if it had a time frame worded in to the contract, the OP has been unlucky time wise. |

Orange did the same to me last year, not one month into a contract but 11 months into a 24 month contract they actioned a clause in their standard terms that allows them to up their rates if the Retail Price Index is not to their satisfaction in October of any year, they hadn't acted on that clause for three years previously but obviously felt they could get away with it in 2011, so they did.
I'm not with Orange now, obviously.

I was going to go down the cancellation route, but would I not be liable for the remaining months of the contract (about  ? If that is so, then I have nothing to bargain with.
I took out the deal totally based on the price given to me. For them to change that so quick is surely false advertising. |

Don’t know if you’ve already sorted this, but I wouldn’t cancel.
If this was me, I would contact my bank first and tell them to only pay the amount I initially agreed, I would then email SKY, (not much point in arguing over the phone at this point), advising them what I have done and why, informing them that as far as I’m concerned this is the terms of the contract which I agreed and would honour my side and expect them to do the same. Give them all the contact details they’ll need, and expect a call (see I’ve saved you money already ) be polite but firm, record the name of whom you have spoken to and when. Follow up all calls by email, stand your ground but keep paying your agreed amount. Good Luck.
