| Quote Blazingsmoke Bronco="Blazingsmoke Bronco"My 18 month old HP laptop has developed a fault. Within two minutes of starting up it sounds like the fan has cut in and is racing around. At the same time the casing gets very hot to the left of the mousepad, any idea what the likely problem is? Any advice is greatly appreciated'"
The cooling fan is buggered, shouldn't be an expensive fix.

| Clicking links on this site (using firefox):
Until relatively recently, whenever I clicked a link on RL Fans, it would open in a new tab. When I clcik a link now, it opens in the same tab and I have to hit the back button to return to the original page. This is the only site this happens on.
Is this a site-wide change or has one of my cats managed to change something as he tap-dances across my keyboard (they have been known to send e-mails before today)? I've had a look through user settings but can't seem to find anything that may have been changed.

Annoying isn't it, i've got around it by clicking middle button on my mouse.
A thing i have noticed about Firefox is i have a touch screen monitor and by touching with 2 fingers and moving them apart it enlarges the screen/zoom in so to speak, well on IE it does but not in Firefox. It took a while to suss this out, thought my monitor had gone faulty.
Edit. touch screen prob sorted, some gestures have been removed since Firefox 4, just put them back in, wonderful this tinternet.

Change site wide, ask Sadfish to add it to his "I'll do it when I get time" list.

So much of the old setup was hand coded, this new site although it looks the same hasn't had the tweaking and you change one thing and something else breaks, it is hardly an urgent problem.

| Any one got any suggestions for a decent graphics card? i currently have a nvidia gt 9600 with 512mb memory. Had it a few years now and it plays most things well on the new pc i got a few months ago. But want to upgrade to something a bit more future proof and something that will probably take advantage of my newish pc. Preferably ATI because as i understand it, ati cards will send both video and audio out through its hdmi channel which makes things better for watching films etc on my tv. The nvidia cards apparently dont do this. as far as price is converned im looking for mid range. dont wanna be spending much more than £115. In all honesty im not sure of how much difference i would see between having a mid range and a top range expensive card anyway. but as im not exactly a gaming enthusiast its not to important. I play a lot of flight simulator though which can be demanding with all the add-ons etc.

| I've been looking at improving my entertainment tech at home. I have a PS3 and a Sony TV, which is good, but I'm looking at adding some sort of top quality sound to that. Basically, I can't understand this whole AV receiver/stereo receiver business, nor do I fully 'get' what they do. If, for example, I bought an AV receiver, rigged my PS3 up to it via HDMI and bought myself some decent speakers, what exactly is the AV receiver doing that my PS3 can't? The PS3 is playing the music, so does it really add much? Does it improve the quality? Boost how loud it is?
You see a lot of 'cinema systems' in the shops, i.e. blu-ray players with five speakers, which is all nice but I don't want the blu-ray player so I kind of rule them out. I'm after something that I can put my PS3 on to play both games and music (iPod touch for this also), so do I go for an AV receiver or stereo? Furthermore, would this receiver improve the audio quality of the built-in HD freeview on my TV, or does it have to be an external device that I attach to it?

All code is hand coded. However the old set-up was largely automated with modifications to the forums applied using the standard approach of [url=http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.7/svn.advanced.vendorbr.htmlvendor branches[/url.

Going off everything you've put, I wouldn't upgrade. Your card seems to perform well enough for you at the moment and you don't play games.
I was under the impression the 9600 GT had HDMI out? (I may be wrong) and as far as I know both ATI and Nvidia cards will push the sound and video over HDMI (although that's more to do with the HDMI standard than anything else)

Just tested a GeForce 8400GS and it certainly does do sound over HDMI
