Has Robinson hacked your account?
I think the reason that so many are talking about her on here is because
a) This is a thread about her
b) Like her or loathe her, negative or positive, she changed the debate
c) She divides opinion more strongly than any other PM, past or present
d) She has just died

You’ll be saying next that, the decimation of the British mining industry was due to Mrs T having the foresight to reduce this countries carbon emissions .
But at least she went to Gas fired power stations, unfortunately they have now guzzled up all the North Sea Gas & we’re now paying the price – literally.
Yet China & India are building four new coal power plants – every week!
Oh, I forgot, emissions from Britain are far more harmful to the earth than those in the Far East .

She was very popular. You only have to read the Daily Mail comments to see that. The Daily Mail is largely read by bog standard English people who have got limited intellectual capacity but who are representative of the so called silent majority. She was also very popular with the working classes in the South East. The fact that she was unpopular in some working class Northern communities does not reflect the national picture. Having said that, you may be talking about such communities (I have read back).

Wow, he never saw it coming, f'kin idiot.'"
I thought miners in South Wales and Lancashire also capitulated?

The point he's making - really fooking clearly - is that in each of her election victories, more people voted for someone other than her than voted for her.

a) / d) - granted but many people die and there is an "RIP" thread with about 10 contributions
b) - in other words she was very effective
c) n other words she was very effective
as she said hereself at the time - she thought her government would change Britain for at least a generation ahead. She dis, because she was effective. The point I am trying to make though is why people who did not agree with her are still in such a state? The worldhas moved on. Britain is different.

Nor, conversely, does being popular in the South East and with Daily Mail readers mean she was "popular". Your argument for, is exactly the same as against. You can't have it both ways.

Except if you look at the population distribution of the country it does.

| Good Post by James Webb on another forum...
Why are so many people seemingly so happy that a frail 87 year old woman has died? Why has an old song; 'Ding D*** The Witch Is Dead' topped download charts following Maggie Thatcher's death? Why are street parties throughout the UK in full swing right now & Twitter feeds red hot with jokes about someone who was Prime Minister for 11 years?
My brother went to London, with his girlfriend at the time, in the late 1980s for the Poll Tax protests. Everything was calm until Maggie Thatcher's thug police started causing trouble. The west end of London became a battle zone, as mounted police charged peaceful groups of protesters. My brother feared for his life that day, as Maggie tried to stamp out legitimate protests. She was good at that.
Go back five years from the Poll Tax protests & Maggie Thatcher had again unleashed her thug police, that time on striking miners. Thatcher was determined to stamp out the unions, making an example of the miners to make other unions cower. It was virtual civil war in all but name. Police were drafted in from all over the country to fight the miners.
The rich got richer & the less fortunate were treated with contempt, stamped down into the ground. Millions became unemployed, while yuppies made 'loadsa money', flaunting their wealth vulgarly. People greedily grabbed shares in sold off national assets. Those shares ended up in the hands of the rich eventually, which is what Thatcher had planned all along. It was a big Tory con.
People bought their council houses, thinking they would pass them on to their children. But this mass, undervalued housing sale robbed future generations of social housing. Council house buyers didn't realise this was another dirty Thatcher trick, because in later life those house owners would be forced to sell their homes to pay care home bills. Disgusting Tory exploitation.
Thatcher deliberately covered up police failings following the deaths of 96 at Hillsborough in 1989. Thatcher was hardly going to betray her faithful attack dogs. So the 96 were smeared & their families were mocked by the establishment for decades as they fought bravely to uncover the truth.
For those of us who lived through all this & more during Thatcher's despairing period as PM, who were forced to sign on because we were unable to find work for years as thousands of businesses folded & industry collapsed, there remained only bitter hatred for Maggie Thatcher.
People may criticise those who have rejoiced Maggie Thatcher's death, but unless you lived through those times & suffered down-trodden humiliation at the hands of Thatcher's hated Tories you will never really understand.

Although I never usually read it, someone has tweeted a link to Guido Fawkes' blog page, with associated comments, about the death of Michael Foot in 2010. It makes some of the comments about poor taste this week look a bit two faced.

Indeed so, the results of the General (i.e. National) Elections of 1979, 183 and 1987 tell you the National picture.
Now read back again.
