Quote: Scarlet Pimpernell "Here we go again restricting numbers to a maximum of six. They also suggest if you feel unwell go for a test the problem is that they now admit that the testing system put in place cannot cope but they hope to have resolved the problem in a few weeks. The alternative is to go on a 150 mile round trip which they consider acceptable because apparently Cummins tested it recently when he was having trouble seeing a disaster about to hit the country.'"

Shut up you champagne socialist. You are a nobody on an Internet forum. That’s why you are talking here instead of parliament, because you have as much influence on the running of the country as labour has. Ergo. Zero

I doubt Labour would want to be anywhere near this shambles. I am afraid you don’t need to be poor to be a socialist just a conscience which people like you don’t have and it would appear to fall back on insults.
I await why you think this system is world beating or that it is working at all.

You, on the other hand, can only aspire to be anything other than a 2 bit WUM.

Interesting to notice that "world beating" is no longer used when describing the new app or the 2nd rate track and trace system.
It's not like Boris to over egg something is it.
The pattern for all these things has been to exaggerate their worth and quality and then, when they are found to be not up to scratch, to present something even bolder and more exaggerated, which takes the heat away from the initial shambles
We've seen this on testing for 4 months.
You dont even need to be a socialist to spot this, just read the papers, even the Tory press is laughing.

Wife tried to get a test booked for today - she’s a teacher and has been back at work for 2 weeks, and is showing symptoms.
No home test kits are available, and no tests at ANY walk in or drive through centres are available today.
World beating system? Don’t make me laugh!
Still at least one of Boris’ mates will have made money out of this fiasco.

The whole "system" is in utter, utter chaos.
Hancock is starting to make Gavin Williamson look like a top class government minister.

Boris, the metaphorical headmaster has his feet up on the desk, while his teachers (ministers) do whatever they want.
It's time that they got a proper grip of things, although, I dont think this lot are actually capable.
There is little or no cohesive thinking and planning, just rhetoric and occasional fire fighting.

Everyone is told to go out and eat, return to work, use public transport etc and the "R" number suddenly increases.
We then get the schools back (absolutely neccessary) but, have to start restricting everything else and still the "R" is going up and fast.
Where the hell is the planning and forward thinking here ?

Even the Troy press are taking the mickey, with daily clown pictures of Boris and Hancock - they are an utter embarrassment. Oh, dont forget Brexit.
Plenty of headlines to try and prevent more bad news and mickey taking over Covid and the NHS

We've barely begun to even scratch the surface of any second wave and SERCO T&T is already failing.

Doesn't bode well at all.

Did anyone think these joke multipurpose specialist-at-nothing, up-for-everything companies like Serco would really deliver.
They are literally designed to be good at one thing, winning inflated government contracts. What happens after is almost irrelevant. They are a pastiche of capitalism, a blight on our economy and entrusting them with things of this scale and importance was stupid and dangerous.

This pandemic has been like a wet dream for the contract chasers and Johnson's government have been only too happy to oblige. I wonder where the £100 billion will end up if Johnson goes ahead with his 'moonshot'? He should rebrand it 'moneyshot' because that's what it's really all about.

The sad irony is that the UK will be in way more debt than anything that Corbyn promised but, without any of the infrastructure that would have been set up.
Also, just imaging if EVERY household had decent broadband, maybe even some of the poor kids could have received some learning ??
As for "world beating", the test and trace was never anything close and right now it's in utter chaos

. If you know the right people, you can get a test delivered to your door tomorrow. Like my best pal has even though he has no symptoms. He needs it to go offshore for a certain company urgently and the test is coming directly from the Nhs. He will receiver his test tomorrow and it will be processed on the same day and he will be flying to baku on Saturday

Us plebs have no chance. Even I, as a staunch Tory supporter am getting annoyed at the constant lies peddled which I know flies in the face of recent posts but enough is enough.

If you keep the 'pleb' to a singular context, it's definitely up there as one of your most realistic posts. icon_lol.gif

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ ... e-lockdown

'BARELY FUNCTIONAL' - how damning a criticism is that?

I appreciate that the Tory ideology is that private is always better - so if a pharmaceutical company like GSK or AstraZeneca were setting up the testing labs I could ( at a push seeing as I'm an ureconstructed leftie)accept that they may have the expertise to do so. But who set up the lighthouse Labs? Deloitte, a finance house. Not known for their expertise in clinical pathology, virology or epidemiology. But still they were considered better than say the Crick Institute or Imperial College in London or any of the rehgional university / hospital centres of excellence across the UK.

No involvement of the numerous expert virology and pathology labs around the country in our NHS hospital and our universities. University labs that for the most pert have been mothballed for months because of the pandemic, and which could have been repurposed ( and furloughed / working from home) staff trained to carry out the specific Covid testing.

And to put the cherry on the top Baroness Dido Harding, of the TalkTalk hacking fame, was put in charge of it. A woman who takes failure uselessness to new heights, and I mean beyond Grayling.

And now up to 11 million people, and counting face lockdown. Only a matter of time before it goes nationwide surely as despite the numberof tests performed being reduced the proportion of tests with a positive result rises. I think we are underestimating the level of positive cases as we are currently only testing about 3/4 of the numbers that were being tested earlir in the Summer. When the government's targets were still not being hit, but were a damn sight closer to it than they are now.

The only way to successfully come out of lockdown, reopen schools etc... was to only do so with a functioning test, track and trace system in place. The government has had most of the Spring and all Summer to put this in place but have failed to do so.

I’m one of the people now in lockdown. I can’t have my mates round for a beer but I can meet them in the boozer. Sound.

Apart from that it’s barely even a lockdown

You have to smile when the PM says that the rise in cases is down to the public no longer following the rules closely enough.
This is the same PM that wanted to get schools back (absolutely neccessary), get everyone back into their "proper" place of work (not needed), eat out to help out (not absolutely neccessary) and go out to your local (not a necessity) and all these at the same time.

It is Johnson and his government that INSTRUCTED everyone to do all of these things during August and yet HE now says that people haven't stuck to the rules.

With the furlough scheme coming to an end now, people are going to find themselves out of work, in huge numbers and without any adequate system for coping with the huge numbers that will be looking to claim some kind of benefits.

The systems simply wont cope.

There should have been a coherent plan with certain priorities but, instead, desperation to get the economy moving took over and now, with too much pressure on test and trace, we will descend towards another full lockdown.

IF this is going to happen, it would be better to do it now than wait another 3/4 weeks, when there would be even more cases.

The government strategy of lies and exaggeration is being badly exposed and it's time that Boris started telling the truth and got a grip of his Government.
