| Quote MickeyMo="MickeyMo"We live in an old Victorian semi with thick walls and high ceilings. I'm on Virgin cable broadband and have a Netgear wireless router. In certain parts of the house the wifi signal drops regularly. I was wondering how to best boost the signal so it is available everywhere. Is a signal booster best or is it worth upgrading the wireless router?
Cheers.'"
I'd re-site the router first see if that helps, a booster may work but sometimes even the bets signal is blocked by thick walls, running an access point is sometimes the only way.

| Thanks BG. Moving the router is not really an option I don't think, as it is plugged into the modem under the desk and I won't get away with having trailing wires across the room!

Been reading up on the "£16 computer" project known as Raspberry Pi.
Seems a fascinating idea and is close to fruition.
The British charity set up to create this product may end up creating a revolution in computing.
We are talking about a computer the size of a credit card that is powerful enough to run high definition video, connect to the web and play games like Quake 3, available to buy for £16.
It runs Linux, ubuntu, BBC Basic and Perl using a British ARM chip with upto 256meg of ram.
The original aim of the project was as an educational device to teach kids about computing, however many geeks the world over have seen its potential to offer so much more.

Start>Run> and type msconfig and hit enter, go to the start up tab and deselect anything that you really HAVE to have run at startup.
When requested, reboot.
Once your PC has rebooted clear out your C drive of temp files and all the gubbins that collects there, right click on the C drive in explorer, choose properties, general tab and click on Disk Cleanup, delete everything it finds.
If that doesn't fix it just shout.

BlackBerry playbook going cheap now. Anyone used one? What's it like as a stand alone tablet? Don't have a BlackBerry phone so I know I wouldn't be getting its full potential. Just unsure if it was worthwhile

How do I know what I should deslect - when I followed your instructions, I have a few listed there - one of which is my antivrus Bullguard (which I will know I use so will de select it) but unsure of the others listed. two of them listed are 'soundman' and 'aol dial' sorry I am not very techy, when it somes to the workings of a computer.
thanks

If you have a Blackberry phone then they are OK, if you don't you won't get Blackberry mail. Apps are limited due to the small userbase and I wouldn't be buying anything Blackberry until they are financially more stable.
