| Slight thread drift, but the redtops this morning were going with "Kate's ok", "Kate's doing fine", "Kate will be on a drip for weeks".
Have they learned nothing over the past year? Is freedom of the press freedom to make any old e up?

| Quote Bet Lynch="Bet Lynch"TBF it is not a simple case of morning sickness though is it, hyperemesis gravidarum can lead to many serious problems with the main concern being dehydration which can kill if not treated usually with an IV drip, the condition does not discriminate between rich or poor women.'"
Absolutely.
As noted earlier, I wish her etc all the best – or at least, I certainly do not wish the family harm.
But, oh dear – how many months of this are we in for? And that can't be brilliant for her (them) either.

I don't disagree, it's going to be a long few months.

| Quote Kosh="Kosh"As you know, I'm a republican myself. However I think you're displaying a great deal of uncharacteristic naivety if you think that anything William or Kate could do would remove them from the public eye. Full blown abdication would, if anything, increase media intrusion.'"
Initially, it almost certainly would. Whether that continued to be the case in the longer term would depend on their lifestyle and how much/how little they courted the press. There is interest in them now precisely because they are the future king and queen. The press/public would soon get bored of snaps of their weekly visits to Waitrose, or whatever.
Quote Kosh="Kosh"If we ceased to be a Monarchy tomorrow the press and media would still be full of the goings-on of the ex-Royals.'"
For a time, yes. And we could minimise that time by beheading them all.

I agree, it seems to be a purely British (and its former dependencies) thing. The royal families of other nations seem to be able to pretty much live their lives as normal citizens, even to the point where members of the Dutch royal family can cycle on public streets

My thoughts too. Couple having child, hope all is well, but can't help thinking I won't be able to avoid this for many months to come.

| Nicholas Witchell is the one that kills me.
Is it humanly possible to get any further up that families collective ringpieces?
And he's a fooking scab.

Apparently, the royals despise him too.
Neither he nor they have proper jobs.
Feckless scroungers the lot of 'em.

I thought Jenny [ijolly hockeysticks[/i Bond would take a bit of surpassing in the royal servile fawning stakes but old Nicky has certainly taken up the baton and ran with it.
Ad nauseam.

Shortly after the Falklands war finished I was flown home from Port Stanley on a C130 Herceles, with a BBC crew which included the above mentioned to$$er. If anyone has flown on this elegant aircraft you will know it is not the best for long haul flights. Most of the seating was netting along the side of the plane and the remainder of the space was taken up by two bloody great fuel tanks. There were a few bunks above and the RAF loadmaster had said we could take it in turns to get a couple of hours shut eye, but this to$$er refused to get out of his bunk and stayed in it until an RAF officer told him to shift his ar$e. He eventually got out moaning that he was tired and had not been to sleep in ages.
When we got to Brize Norton the luggage (which was on big pallets with nets over them) was unloaded and we were told to collect our stuff and go to a search area (they were looking for illegal souvenirs), Witchell demanded someone carry his for him as he had rank 'equivalent' to a Squadron Leader, to which the loadmaster politely told him to 'f'ck off' and pointed to an RAF regiment Squadron Leader who was carting his own bags.
Everytime I see this pr!ck on the telly it brings back the memories of this trip home.

I'd wager he doesn't like himself much either.
