Quote: Saddened! "Laptop batteries can just be popped out of the bottom of the case usually I think. Nothing more labour intensive than one or two screws.'"

usually not even a screw, a spring bound slider, possibly at opposite ends of the battery.

one thing to watch is loss of power to the bios if the laptop battery is failing

I had 2 batteres with a Dell I had years ago, they popped out like Saddened mentioned. Can't see anything obvious with this one though.

Laptops, the same as desktops have a battery that keeps the BIOS going but the worst that can happen is you loose any customisations, time and date.

Quote: Standee "How difficult is it to change the battery? '"

Piece of cake, two slides to hold open and it pops out, hard drives are cheap and just as easy to install.

Quote: Standee "The Windows is pre installed, so no disk...'"

No option to make a restore disk?
Dell OEM disks are available on eBay pretty cheap.

I just picked the thing up to check for the first time ever, and realised it is quite simple. However the grinding noise that occured when doing this wasn't too pleasing icon_lol.gif icon_sad.gif

Just looking for a piece of software for work that allows you to convert numerous word/excel files etc to one PDF.

Ideally looking at around £20 a licence.

If anyone can point me in the right direction that'd be great.

TIA.

sounds like you're using it in a commercial setting, I'd buy Acrobat/Distiller if it was business critical.

We're too tight to fork out for that! The ability to convert multiple MS Office docs into one PDF is probably the main feature we need. Cute doesn't have it, does it?

No idea.

It really does annoy me when business expect to get fully featured software for nothing, think about the cost of NOT being able to convert multiple documents into PDF files and then think about the £200 acrobat/distiller would cost, then think about how many documents you'll send in that format over a year, then wotk out the unit cost per document.

Think about not being able to convert completed accounts to PDF and post them on the Companies House website via webfiling.

No, it doesn't.

It annoys me too. We'll pay excessive amounts for things we dont need but stuff like this, we'll try get it as cheap as possible! £89 for Acrobat standard aint too steep. We actually dont send too many PDFs out, but it has risen about 200% recently. I'll stop there before i go off on a whole different tangent and whinge about other things we need and dont get icon_lol.gif

Companies House is a whole different story. Our LTD compmany accounts are all based on IRIS Accounting Software, which can output a report to PDF format and would be then forwarded to Co. House.

Without labouring the point, because you said you agree, personally I'd worry if my accountant couldn't see the business case for spending £89 on business critical software, I'd also be concerned that they couldn't express it in their own accounts as a legitimate expense.

Have a look what the paid for version of CutePDF can do, that might be a feature?

I do worry sometimes. They're idiots who spend £200 on headed note pads for clients but they sit in a box and no one uses them - well except me! I often find myself shaking my head at somethings.

I'll have a gander at the paid version and see what said director thinks of it.
Acrobat X Standard is £132 actually, I converted it on $139 but UK price is more?
