| Quote: bren2k "How very philanthropic of them - while they benefit from education, infrastructure and the welfare system to subsidise the low wages of many employees; it's nice that they 'don't mind' paying CT.
Meanwhile - the average poll ratings this weekend show that the Tory lead is down to single figures, and Labour have had another excellent week, with the Tory manifesto putting off even their own traditional voters, containing a £40bn black hole that even Andrew Marr couldn't ignore; and John McDonnel absolutely destroying the bumbling Damian Green over his own multi million pound windfall off the back of water privatisation. And to top it off, Jeremy Corbyn, The Libertines warm-up act, announces this morning that student fees for those kids starting Uni this September will be cancelled - which is likely to create an even bigger surge in young people registering to vote before today's deadline.
The fear of the establishment is writ large in a weekend of smears about 'supporting' the IRA, despite him clearly saying nothing of the sort.
Game on...?'"
Labour are gaining and the Tories need to get a grip or they will lose - problem for the Tories is the campaign is about May and as soon as they let other MPs out into the public they don't perform because they are not engaged. We haven't seen Hammond this whole campaign.
I would agree the Tories have shot themselves in the foot with not costing their promises - that is just arrogant thinking this was a foregone conclusion. Labour's proposed spending plans are madness and not deliverable.

Looks like Mrs May is for turning unlike the last female PM. Well a U-turn anyway.

You mean the spending plans that have been fully costed?
A very different economy for sure, but by no means undeliverable.

I assume Sal has himself done a full costing of Labour's manifesto to be able to describe it as "not deliverable" and "madness".

| Looks like a major u turn/ climb down by may regarding paying for social care. It's made her look extremely weak, soon as she announced this proposal last week it had disaster stamped all over it.
Hope she performs better than this when brexit negotiations start.

It probably went something like this.
1 +1 = 2 but Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party wrote this so the answer can't be right. This isn't deliverable!!

It would appear that Sal is the type of Tory voter that the tax-dodging Lynton Crosby and Mrs May thought they could rely on to see them home; repeat the hypnotic 'strong and stable' line as many times as possible, avoid the general public, focus on Brexit, and deliver a manifesto with few policies and no costs - because Mr Corbyn is unelectable, so a landslide is virtually guaranteed.
Staggering arrogance, that could well backfire spectacularly.

Quite correct, hopefully just affecting the few and not the many

| She is known as Submarine May for a reason. She sits on the fence until she sees which way to jump to be on the winning side. When she actually has to commit to something the facade collapses.

I see the Tories as the lesser of two evils - they are all as bad as each other
Angela Rayner was on this morning in the same sentence said the removal of tuition fees would be £9bn and then said it would be £11.2bn which is it?
Labour have just missed out the cost of re-nationalising all those industries - I wonder why!!

That's one way of looking at it - MPs are like the SL nowhere near the quality of yester year

| The tax imposed on the British public is nearing an all time record. students pay hefty fees for university and social care cost are being paid by the elderly. Yet we are as a nation still year on year accumulating debt.
Looks like a lot of money is wasted. Also the often used phrase governments money is being used. The government has no money its the taxpayers money.

| It's actually quite incredible that they've managed to shoot themselves in the foot so badly with this social care policy. This election was pretty much unloseable for them until then. Is someone from Warrington running their campaign or something?
Be interesting to see what the surge of young voters registering means, difficult to tell with just raw numbers. Could easily just be pushing the Labour vote up further in safe areas like London, Manchester and Leeds but if it's spread out nicely then it could get interesting, particularly now the Tories have annoyed their base.
