Watched The Descendants last night.....Good film, very good performances - Can see why Gorgeous George is being picked for the Oscar.

However, just a small heads up....Whilst its a well-written tale, with nice touches of humour and heartbreak, it seems to me to be a 'dvd at home' type of film, rather than the 'blockbusting cinema' type that many visit their multiplex to see.

Well recommended though....8/10.

You would be better off seeing the original trilogy than a Hollywood attempt.

You maybe right. People who have seen both seem to favour the original. I'll try and get the original on Netflix.

I prefer the Swedish one but there's not a whole lot in it. The Hollywood one is still well worth watching.

I signed up for the free one-month trial on Netflix but found the selection of films to be pretty bad. Watching the TV series Damages at the moment though which is pretty good.

Notice that Lovefilm are doing a free trial as well so might sign up for the hell of it as well.

Seems like each service has certain titles which are exclusive which is a pain in the backside really.

Been on my list of films to watch for a while now, it's just getting a chance to actually watch stuff! I have a combination of DVDs/Blu Rays/stuff on my laptop that amounts to 66 now and I never know where to start...

Got a 6 month membership for £20 on Amazon on one of their flash sales recently. So far so good, impressed at the speed of their delivery too. Can have 2 discs at a time, and unlimited streaming, not sure how many devices thats limited to, as I used it on Xbox, PS3, laptop, Dad's laptop and brother in laws iPad.

As it's an Amazon owned company now, keep checking for offers

I enjoyed both but slightly preferred the Hollywood version which was, remarkably, far more faithful to the original book.

Yeah wasn't as mad on that. It was good and had promise but it felt like half a film to me. Like they'd dropped us into a story halfway through lol. That spoiled it a bit, plus it was the same old street gangster stuff. Performances were great though. What did you think?

If you thought [iAnimal Kingdom[/i was good then you should like [iSnowtown[/i even if it's a lot more unpleasant because I thought it provoked a lot more questions, none of them with easy answers either. It's a contender for a top ten film of the year for me because it's still lingering there now.
