What every single propaganda article is failing to report is the sheer number of the 37% who are gaining the benefit back on appeal. It is ATOS who are doing the miracle working with their tick box "medical assement" and loaded questions. The general public are being fed these propaganda stories without being told the bigger picture and I'm pretty certain its not the "news" papers doing it off their own back - they are told what to go with.
Questions like "Do you watch Eastenders" turns into "you sit and watch Eastenders for half an hour therefore you can sit and do some work". Never mind I have to lay on the sofa to watch after being dosed up all day on Fentanyl and oramorph.
I'll print it again for those that missed it in a previous thread (and apologies to those that have seen it and commented) these are DWP's own figures. Page 12 being relevant:

A clear medical assessment there. I wonder which doctor writes for the Express. Presumably the same one that has conducted all the checks on these benefits claimants who weren't really as ill as they thought. I suggest a knighthood and a huge bonus for the hardworking, conscientous doc, whoever he or she may be.

| By far the biggest part of the enormous welfare budget goes on paltry state pensions and despite all the scrounger bashing very little on the unemployed. Electoral suicide to call pemsioers scroungers and no real savings to be had in the latter. So, the sick and disabled become an easier taget. What they seem to forget is that a huge part of the electorate will be affected, including the 6 million unpaid carers they referred to in their own manifesto. The Tories are attacking their own power base relentlessly - drivers, commuters, child benefit to the relatively well off (although I think tomorrow will see some reversal there), care, tuition fees, etc. In essence they are potentially destroying themselves, as I told my MP recently.
The problem is that the Labour Party has become a pathetic party that stands for nothing and has no high calibre people in it. If they had any people with gravitas and intellect they could use this opportunity to rewrite the political script of this country, just as Thatcher did when the Unions were out of control. Trouble is Labour has bought into the Thatcherite narrative hook, line and sinker. They have neither the wit nor courage (and especially not the leadership) to intellectualise and then sell a new politics to the electorate.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the PR departments of the Tory and LibDem party's present their end of term assessments at the next election.
I have a much bigger anomaly than pensions, sickness and invalidity put together though - the working and child tax credits department.
When I've finished dealing with them via a current complaint lodged with my MP I'll tell the full story, suffice to say that they willingly pay out any amount of money without a single piece of cross checking or validity checking and only do retrospective checking on a very small sample of claimants, they must have handed out billions over the years without one single cross-check with (for example) an applicants P60.
And the Insolvency Service - not fit at all for any purpose, not when, by their own admission (and I have a letter from them in apology) their own staff don't understand the fairly basic forms that you submit to them for statutory redundancy (and they pay out 60% too much as a result).
Yes, I've been screwed by two departments in the past few years as my MP is well aware.

I think this "doctor" is probably an intern who also does the Horoscope, Agony Aunt column, Royal gossip and the letters page.
Oh ... and the office Starbucks run at 11am.

We get some benefit connected with my daughter that relates to the time she is at home. Mrs D send the government department a precise schedule but they can't deal with change, the useless f***s. So they overpaid. Mrs D 'phoned to say she did not want the overpayment because she does not want to be accused of making fraudulent claims. They still could be bothered / are incapable. So, at my behest (I was in the background shouting tell the lazy sods to calculate it properly) she insisted they put it in writing to us that we could keep what we consider the excess. That was very recently, I will be interested to learn whether they have.
It's the same with HMRC - they are incapable most of the time - unless you are lucky enough to get through to one of their few remaining proper staff.
Another thing that has bugged me over the years with HMRC is that they never look into company's that get struck off without ever filing accounts / tax returns. People can run a profitable company for 18 months or so then apply for it to be struck off. HMRC never challenge that / look into it. There must have been many billions in tax lost to the unscrupulous in that way over the years.

Any government with guts would say that all civil servants need to work until 67 (or whatever) before drawing a pension and that their pensions should be capped in line with national average pensions outside the civil service, subject to due credit for their personal (as opposed to employer) contributions. That measure alone would free up enormous sums to spend on the those many of these public servants (sic) are supposed to serve.

I've said before do as you would be done by. Is it any wonder people in civil service/public sector departments treat you like crap when you treat them in the same way.
They're people for better or worse. I know when I was a civil servant people who had a pop or were rude found their papers back at the bottom of the pile. I guess if I'd dealt with yours they'd still be in the pile.

Can you not read what I said or do you not take anything in? I actually said great article by a great lady who has taken up our cause. She also is a member of some FB disability groups I belong to. Just a shame she blogs for the Mail. I don't care what paper her blog is in tbh as long as she's getting the truth out there. The Daily Mail is probably the best to do that in too, if she can change just one DM readers mentality then her article has done good.
Please do pay attention to what I write and don't twist my words.
