To be fair, though, many were quite upset about the formation of the Scottish Parliament.

| Quote: handrags "dont you think its really sad that a whole nation can be brainwashed into becoming state robots? I cant think of living in constant fear like they do.'"
Just about every nation is brainwashed to a certain degree. How many people have been brainwashed into believing some of the stories that western propagander have spouted about him over the years?
And as for brainwashing, you'd be waiting till eternity to beat the amount of media led brainwashing into that parasite Diana Spencer's murder/death/life in this country.
Fwiw, There are a few who believe Kim Jong Il was a visionary. He immediately saw through the mundaneness (?) of golf, and he was a fore-runner in the fight of global warming Ever seen a satellite picture of North Korea at night? Total darkness, whilst every other country is polluting the atmosphere by not turning off it's electricity....

I disagree. Diana's face had always sold mags and papers by the million, such is peoples' insatiable appetite for banal trivia and celebrity, but after she died the papers just jumped on the mourning bandwagon and shamelessly milked it. The ridiculous outbursts of mass grief and hysteria were indeed a mystery to the sane, but were spontaneous and not created by the media.

| Ah, I remember the days when the Indie was a half-decent paper.
Mind you, there was an article by Norman Lamont in last week's [iNew Statesman[/i.
I guess it's all in the interests of "balance".
i.e. In among items from those who can think or write or both, you slip in a an article by someone who can do neither.

For the most part it still is a half-decent paper and one of the few that does still offer a range of opinions, from the likes of diverse commentators such as: Dominic Lawson, Brute Anderson, Rober Fisk etc. Quite why they allow Christina Patterson to stray from her comfort zone of poetry is totally beyond me

Was that deliberate?
Since .......
Quote: cod'ead "Bruce Anderson has been an advocate of torture in ticking time bomb scenarios, even before the 9/11 terrorist attacks brought the question to greater public prominence. In February 2010 he wrote a column for The Independent, arguing that the British government would have not just the right, but the duty, to torture if there was a ticking bomb, and that they should torture children if they believed that doing so would yield information that would avert a terrorist attack

| I now believe that this guy really was a demigod, as the BBc has passed on the following from korean media:
Even nature is mourning, the state-run Korean Central News Agency reported on Thursday. A snowstorm hit as Mr Kim died and ice on the volcanic Chon lake near his reported birthplace at Mount Paektu cracked, it said:
"so loud, it seemed to shake the Heavens and the Earth", and a mysterious glow was seen on a revered mountain top:
"Following the storm's sudden end at dawn on Tuesday, a message carved in rock - "Mount Paektu, holy mountain of revolution. Kim Jong-il" - glowed brightly, it said. It remained there until sunset."
So that must be right. Certainly has removed all my doubts. I mean, how else would that glowing message have appeared if not from the man himself? Eh? Ask yourself that.
