Silly question, though. It isn't USA v EU. The Ryder Cup was founded in the 20s when there was no EU. Plus, initially it was USA v GB.

We allowed other European countries to the party, just because we wanted to have the likes of Seve Ballesteros to beef up our then fairly poor side, but basically they are in by invitation.

There are over 50 FAs in UEFA, including Ukraine, Israel and Russia, none of which last I heard were EU members.
