Most drivers on the road are too stupid to be allowed to drive but then the driving "test" is dumbed down to the intellectual equivalent of an amoeba.
Sweeping generalisation I know but then when you see, hear listen to the things that "qualified" drivers do you have to shake your head.
If a similar kind of attitude happened in a business environment there would be people sacked on the spot for putting people lives at risk and the business.
To all those who complain that the police are too thorough with motorists all I can say is tough, at least they are doing something to curb incompetent morons who believe speed limits, lane discipline etc are not for them.

I ranted about this the other day on facebook, in London you could barely see 20 metres in front of you and the amount of cars that not only failed to put their fog lights on but failed to put ANY lights on. Cars just popping out of the fog, people are idiots.

Non indicators really wind me up, I mean it's not even a difficult process, and middle lane hoggers on the motorway.

There are lots of problem drivers on the road. The solution is very simple as well, make everyone undergo a driving refresher course every so often.

Other people using the road at very same time as I am using it is damned inconsiderate.
And another thing, when other people do daft things I get irate, but I manage to make allowances for myself when I do them.
That's only because I'm perfect though.

Useless. Unless you can change driver behaviour somehow, then it's a lost cause. Let's face it, those who drive the worst - the most dangerous - largely don't do so out of inability; they are just assholes, and deliberately drive aggressively and with no respect or thought for other road users.

Personality comes into driving style just as in most things.
But given the sheer volume of traffic, we muck along pretty well I think.
It's an imperfect world, which in no way suggests we shouldn't look to try to make it better, but driving standards are not calamitous are they?
I mean I don't know, are accidents increasing as a percentage?

I'd agree, but I'd add that in driving - like most things- the silent majority really do want to do their passable best, and would prefer not to create any trouble and strife. It's the arrsehole minority that issteadily on the rise.


No, you have a far better chance on UK roads than you do on those of most other countries. The only caveat is that if (as I believe) aggressive and dangerous driving are on the increase then our stats will deteriorate. That will still leave us better than most places, but isn't a good thing.

Having an advanced license it's amazing the things you don't know or do when you go beyond just a 'car' license.

There is no advanced licence though various organisations offer an advanced qualification.

I'd agree that being trained by an advanced driving instructor teaches you a whole host of things you didn't know, and would (and have) recommend it to anyone, but sadly most people are perfectly happy just to "pass the test" when they ca go back to driving with theirhand resting on the wheel at 6 o'clock, most mean well but have no real interest in whether their driving could be improved.

By advanced i meant beyond a car license eg HGV, PCV etc
