| No story here. Pretty much every petrol station I go to has a shop with an off-licence. It doesn't ever make me think a can or bottle for the road would be good.

You can nip to the garage to pick up a 4 pack or a bottle of vino to drink at home, but a Weatherspoons will undoubtably be aiming at getting people in for a meal mid journey and the temptation for some to have 'just one' might be to hard to resist. I don't know about others, but I certainly think my driving would be impaired by even a single glass of red or a pint of lager.

Well we've had the whole "impaired" debate many times and technically obviously any drug or medication you take at any time has [isome[/i effect but personally I feel having one pint is not relevant to my driving. If at the local they have a weak beer, say up to 3.6, I might even have two - as I know I would be safely under the limit, and won't be driving a long distance or at any speed.
I would certainly choose not to drink any alcohol when on a motorway journey, but the law in this country is people who choose to have up to the legal limit of alcohol while driving can legally do so, and for almost everyone, they would be legal after a single glass of red or a pint of lager.
If I was Weatherspoons I think it would be a good idea to have a rule that they don't serve alcohol to the [idriver[/i of the party. Maybe they will.

The rst of Europe have been more 'grown up' about alcohol consumption than the UK have for years.

That's a pretty meaningless generalisation, if I may say so.

An extremely brilliant flash of insight, but wtf has it got to do with pubs on motorways?

About as much as any of his other posts on various threads today.
On one he made some snide reference to a 'bitch' and her period. Without trawling through his previous posts, his attitude seems to be more cyclical than any menstrual woman

Just as an experiment have one or two pints of 3.6 beer and then try to play squash,
You may then reconsider whether your driving may be affected.

A couple of years ago I'd returned from a fishing trip and joined the rest of the lads in The Sailor's Return in Weymouth. I had one pint of cider and then drove home. I was pulled by plod at Sherborne and breathalysed. The reading, much to my surprise, was ZERO! In the space of half an hour I had apparently metabolised the cider.
For information: I no longer drink any alcohol if I'm driving, after the above situation, I cannot rely on the rate I absorb alcohol at all

| Well if you want a pint you can pull off a motorway and get one anyway and then get back on.
What is so different about a motorway?
They are safer roads anyway in general
Although a drunk could cause a right carnage and disruption.
But I don't think we are talking drunks here are we?
Just a bite to eat and a possible drink.
Not all people who would fancy a drink with their meals are drivers, so they are catered for.
It's all about responsible choices at the end of the day.
