Quote: Durham Giant "Did anyone see Mesrine Killer instinct on FX. ( second part this weekend) Mesrine started as a young soldier in Algeria and basically ended up in a torture unit. Leaves the army and joins up with some gangsters in paris in the late 50s early 60s.

Absolute psycho happy to rob or knock anyone off.

Goes to Quebec and joins the liberation front, robs and murders a lot of people escapes from prison. Then goes back to break out the other prisoners and offs five guards then heads back to France.
A true story about a french gangster who makes the Krays etc look like schoolboys.

Vincent Cassel plays Mesrine has to be one of the best actors around.

Superb if you missed it try and catch up with it some time'"

Saw it about a year ago and absolutely loved it. The length of of the whole thing and subtitles might put a few people off? Cassel was absolutely brilliant in it.

Do you mean films that are an ongoing puzzle? If so try theseeXsitenZ
Dark City
Total Recall
Twelve Monkeys
Primer [/i(you'll need to watch this more than once to feel that you've satisfactorily got it)
[iGhost In The Shell [/i(Japanese animation but don't let that put you of because it has big ideas and the squel is every better)
[iTimecrimes [/i(Spanish)
[iThe Ninth Configuration [/i(dated a bit this)
[iStrange Days[/i (sort of)
[iVertigo[/i (not sci-fi though lol)

Some horror which all contain plenty of gore but are similar (none of them are an easy watch)
[iTriangle
Switchblade Romance
Inside
Martyrs[/i

I'd add Minority Report, Cypher and Paycheck to that list. Paycheck isn't really anything special but falls in with the sci-fi mystery type genre.

It was a depressingly bleak snapshot of not so very long ago.
Stan wasn't a happy chappie.

Terrific soundtrack.

Contagion 7/10

Quite a good film surprisingly. Was expecting the usual, over the top, heavy handed American treatment about mass destruction, but turned out to be quite thoughtful on its subject without offering a different theory as to where germ related death comes from. Only real quibbles were, a few of the sub-plots remained unaswered at the end of the film and Jude Law's cheesecutter. eusa_hand.gif how very English...

Next week, The Haunting, which looks quite promising from the trailer, but remakes of The Thing and Straw Dogs look avoidable. Through viewing the trailers, both look to be lacking the aptmosphere of the originals.

On BBC4 now.

I'm just tuning in.

Mmmmm. eusa_think.gif

I was getting flashbacks, deja-vu stylee.
I think I'd seen it before.
Sat and watched it anyway.

The Public Defenders were class-acts.
The Homicide teccies a bunch of inept w@nkers!

Some great choices there.

Thought Fassbenders portrayal of Bobby Sands was depressingly brilliant. He certainly got bodily into character.

Caught Tony Manero on Film4 a while back.
The pitch blackest of comedies. found it fairly transfixing.

Enjoyed Dogville although I nearly gave up on it early doors.

Got Kaitlin Varga recorded after your recent recommendation so will be getting an airing shortly.

Have you caught this one Mc ?

www.film4.com/reviews/2006/lights-in-the-dusk

Observing the gritty bleakness of some of your selections I think you may possibly enjoy it. I did.

Film4 late tomorrow night.
