| Do these guys read a different version of the bible to the rest of us (well to the version that I seem to recall seeing bits of when I was at school anyway)? I didn't realise Jesus and God were proponents of free market economics and the interests of the one trumping the needs of the many?

| It really is frightening the degree to which some Americans are effectively brainwashed. Otherwise normal, relatively smart, human beings just completely wall themselves off from reality or from logical, rational thinking.

What is strange is that its a basic fundamental clause in the Constitution that the State will be independent of The Church, thats an absolute.
We don't have that here, we even have church leaders voting in our Parliament.
And yet which is the country who believes that God instructs them to go to war ?

Having had the book in question shoved down my throat, I'd argue that, if you actually read the book, then it's pretty much the opposite (inasmuch as you can apply stories of ancient times to a very different modern world). But then again, my own parents, who could be quite fundamentalist, would suddenly discover 'pragmatism' when it suited, yet preach 'The Book' when that suited.

Well that is what makes me laugh (or cringe) when I hear religious right-wingers in the US saying things like "Obama will rip up the Constitution", yet insist on trying to force their religious views on many issues on the rest of the US.
Same goes for guns, the pro-gun lobby and supporters continually quote the 2nd amendment, except they leave out an important part of it.
They pick and choose which parts of the Bible and which parts of the Constitution they want to follow and then decry anybody who doesn't follow those parts.

Never mind the Bible, isn't it the case that 40-odd percent of the US population voted for a man who has magic underpants, and believes he will get his own planet when he dies?

I heard about his magic underpants but what that is supposed to mean I have no clue and the same about getting his own planet when he dies. These Mormons are strange aren't they ?

I had to look this up to find out what it was all about.
Flippin' heck ... it's like blundering into something worse than the Da Vinci code ... it just goes to firm my conviction that, for a religion to be really successful, you have to have some bloody silly rules about dress or diet or, better still, both.
Then the adherents will stand out, get noticed, get criticised and possibly persecuted and then they'll have to band together against the criticism and persecution.
Bingo, you've got your own sect.
Smart eh?

| There is a serious side to all this, though. The question is - did Romney lose because his underpants are not magic - or did he lose because Obama's underpants are more powerful?

I read on the internet that Obama doesn't wear underpants.
With help, I have stopped visiting those sorts of web sites though.

| Is this because he's the commando in chief, and thus it's a requirement?
