I think the greater risk from having a pint before driving any distance on a motorway is that of drowsiness.

Why say something so stupid when I myself made the point that taking any drug is inevitably going to have "some" effect? The question isn't whether your functioning (whether driving or anything else) IS affected, but rather HOW and TO WHAT EXTENT it is affected.

The other point I made, which presumably you also missed, is that at present in this country it is legal to drive with a small blood alcohol level, and so the law of the land does not judge anything below that level as SIGNIFICANTLY affecting the average person's driving, to the extent that they should be prevented from doing it.

Agreed, and also the faster speeds you're going to be driving at, the more significant even a small effect on any of your faculties might be.

We have them in airports without a problem. Weatherspoon do a great range of food an non alcoholic drinks. No more problem than McDonalds

I have a car that can do 170mph. The temptation to drive fast is always there. But I also know that doing anywhere near this type of speed in the UK is going to land me in seriously hot water.
