Quote: rover49 "A good friend of mine lost his wife of many years and remained single for a few years after that and eventually decided to 'get back out there', he did not have much look when out drinking but did end up with a really nice lass he met in Morrisons shopping, she noticed all the ready meals in his trolley I think. After his couple of years with her they split and he went back on the supermarket trawl and ended up with another who he eventually got engaged to and lived with, might be an avenue to look at. I believe one supermarket trialed a 'singles night' a while back, so it must be more than my mate who has picked up a bargain (you might even get a two for one !!!)'"

Apparently Bananas in the front of the trolley is the sign your single and looking for love !.

Quote: Mike Oxlong "After finishing with my ex gf a few months back, I am looking to meet someone new - thing is, I have no idea where to start. Only ever had two long term relationships, first gf I met at college and went out for 4 years and then recent ex was a friend of a friend that introduced us and we went out for 7 years.

Am a bit passed the going out and meeting someone on a night out stage - and to be honest, always thought that wasn't the best way of meeting someone and having a lasting relationship with.

So, now that I'm older ( and possibly wiser ) where the hell do you meet someone that isn't a weirdo, or a pi55head, etc?? Is best to do the friend of a friend thing again, or ask someone out you know thru work, or do the internet dating sites ( but that brings me back to the weirdo point - how do you know?? )??

PS - I know this is the sin bin and will attract some smart ar5e comments, but if you could keep them to a minimum, it would be appreciated

If you're user name is true to life, you really shouldn't have a problem.

Quote: Hull White Star "If you try and look for love you will never find it. I always say you'll meet someone when you least expect it and when you're not looking or trying. Love will find you, be patient.
Ha this is a myth.

I have to say the 'permanent singletons' that I know, are
a) invariably male
b) never look for a partner in the slightest

and surprisingly enough, women don't come and seek them out either. They just quietly get on with their own lives and hobbies and their relationship status or love life becomes the thing you don't mention.

I think it might work for women. Even an average looking woman will attract a few suitors without having to look particularly hard. If you have an average looking single woman, and place her in a context where she will spend time with a single man (eg through work, social friendship group etc) there is a fair chance that the single man will consider her as an option.

But it doesn't really work the other way round, I think if a man is single for a certain length of time and he wants to find a partner, there is much more of a requirement for him to do something pro active and make an effort. "Not looking" for a male avoids the thing of being desperate, but means he will go years and years without female attention.

Depends on the context really and how big your organisation is.

I would not recommend going out with someone in your office however in a big organisation it's not uncommon to have people meeting through work socials, and ending up in relationships with people in the same firm, or at least same industry, you have stuff in common and it doesn't really cause inconveniences.

When there is already a power relationship at play, eg one is the other's line manager, then its a definite no no.

It worked for me icon_smile.gif I used to go out every week as a single woman, hoping that night would be the night I meet "the one" and it never happened. Most men just wanted a one night stand (which I was not interested in) and once they found this out the would "disappear" to another pub.

On the other hand, I started a new job and it was at the beginning of my health problems, so I was concentrating on keeping my job whilst getting progressivly worse, when I met the future Mr HWS at work. I was not looking for anyone at the time, paying my mortgage and trying to get out of bed to work in the morning was consuming all my energy.

All I will say to the OP is don't come across as too desperate, a woman can spot a mile off if a man is genuinely interested in her or just where he will spend the night icon_wink.gif

As said above, the supermarket can be a good one. One of my favourites jokes is the meals for one joke.

Gym is another place or fitness class, Salsa dancing (allows you to get up close and personal).

Maybe even a evening class at college

Thats how I met the wife , She was my boss were I use to work and worked together for 4 years without any problems before I moved to another job . Sadly after 14 years together , It was her workplace that was the catalyst for our break up last year . I now find myself in the same boat as mike oxlong as the thought of starting up again quite daunting.

There are a few women where I work that I get on really well with, are easy to talk to and can have a laugh with - but I just wonder if I should take the next step and actually ask one of them out?

The work relationship is always in the back of my mind though, wondering if it can work out or not, but also if she said no, what would it be like when we were in the same room or passed each other on the corridor?

But if she said yes, where do I suggest to go - out for a meal/drinks, or a coffee??

As you can tell, it's not something I've done much of over the years, lol.

If you want to be outnumbered by women 10 to 1 join a salsa class icon_biggrin.gifROOL:
