| I would not get too carried away let us see if the government take them to court and if they are able to make P&O reverse their decisions.

Shouldn't that be up to a court to decide the outcome and not the government?, just asking like

| How can a court make a decision on this case unless the government takes P&O to court and don’t forget it is the government’s own employment laws. There are severe doubts that based on the current laws it is questionable if they have, well in the U.K. anyway.
They don’t need a court case to have P&O reverse their decision because I am sure they have enough leverage with contracts awarded and the fact that DP World are involved in the government’s Freeports. The question is do they have the will to do so.

| It’s not a contradiction because if the laws do not allow the government to take P&O to court then no decision for them to make. The alternative would be to use leverage against the company as stated but it is unlikely that de Pfeffel will want to upset the actual owners of DP World.
I hope that explains my posts but for clarity I expect them to do nothing. What do you think they will do because you are very good at trying to pick faults with others without offering any views of your own, that is if you actually have any.

| The most telling statement today was that P&O would do it again because our government obviously holds no fear to them. I wonder if they would act the same if it was France for example.

The problem is with the system, not the company.

| Big companies dont care a hoot who is the courier
.
They care if their product gets there on time.
The company i work for ships to Ireland 2 times a week, it matters little who ships it, as long as it gets there.

The P & O Chief admitted breaking the law:
P&O Ferries boss admits they broke law over sackings The firm's boss Peter Hebblewaite gave evidence to a Commons select committee a week after sacking staff via zoom. He revealed that new staff are being paid between £5.15 and £6 an hour, which is below the UK's minimum wage of £8.91.
It will be interesting to see just what action can be taken against them and whether the Tories follow through with some of their threats, dont hold your breath on any action though.

Unfortunately, you're right.
Mind you, if any freight has suffered delays with recent goings on, they will give P & O a miss, at least in the short term.

Big companies won't give P&O the miss, like P&O they realise success is based upon profit, simple. They will look for the VFM routes ensuring they meet their timeline targets and get favourable rates etc. Thats how successful companies operate and not work in the bitter and old fashioned mindset you seem to 'operate' in.
We cant all work for the 'country' unfortunately

Doing nothing would be a worse option, I think even you would agree on that.

Yes and from a company director point of view that's what Hebblethorpe and management should do.
From my point of view as an observer though they are a failed company which deserves to go bust.
Better-run, less lazy companies have over a prolonged period invested more, grown market share and offered a better service. That P&O are in this position is their own fault and no matter how much they scrimp and save the market will eventually push them out of business - or more likely the remaining bits will be split up and bought by other companies and rebranded.

Good businesses run on establishing good relations with their customers and suppliers, it's not all about saving the last penny on every transaction - there are some who chase the last h'penny but, they can and do come unstuck in uncertain times.
Of course some will still use P & O both for freight and for travel but, it would be naïve to think that, such bad press, not to mention ship's being impounded wont affect their business, especially in the short term. Of course it will.
If you and Mrs Wire - Quin were booking a short cruise and you had the choice of P & O,(staffed with newbies) or, another carrier which was similar price, which would you choose ?
It would be a brave move, right now, to choose P & O.
