| Within minutes his first few words are a lie with no basis in fact. He stated that the vast majority of the country was returning to work, when asked what evidence they had none was forthcoming. This government gets more like a Trump surrogate, they lie, avoid scrutiny and place their friends in places of power even if they are completely unsuitable for the post.

The man is a total idiot. His own government's measures for social distancing already prevent a mass return to work. We usually have 9 in our office. The social distancing measures in place only allow 3 at any one time. We've all been advised to keep working from home.
I'm afraid the service industry game is up. Why spend excess time and money going to somewhere you don't need to be when you can just log in from home and be just as efficient? The economy will need to adapt to this shift in working. Industries come and go. Overpriced city centre sandwich shops and office lets are not exempt. Nobody gave a toss about the demise of heavy industry. Why should we give a toss about Pret a Manger?
Have you noticed the people championing a return to the office? They all fall into the category of preaching the values of office work from villas in Marbella or superyachts in Sardinia. Screw 'em!

I started working from home in 2017 and I’m fortunate enough to have a home office. I do feel for the younger ones working on dining room tables in shared flats - understandably, at lot of them are a bit keener to be back in the office.
If the commute does disappear for a lot of people, it’ll be interesting to see if core hours creep up in those industries.

| I was listening to the former owner of Pret on Radio 4 saying that Civil Servants should be sent back to the office because Government need to be at the forefront of supporting town centres. I'm all for showing willing etc, but I work in a huge Civil Service building in a major city centre, and at great expense they completely renovated it to exclusively operate as a hotdesking environment. It enabled them to fit more people in and rationalise the estate. However, with Covid no one has a clue how to turn it into a safe environment for staff to return. I haven't been in the place since March and I see no route to me going back in the medium term.

Could you imagine how Prime Ministerial he'd come across as if he ever came to one of these news conference specials by announcing some details the countries population didnt already know about?

The government needs a coherent strategy - this just seems so knee jerk all the time. I get these are very difficult times but he seems completely out of control and out of his depth. Only announced on Tuesday we were going into tier 3 now we are not - its bonkers
If we having lockdowns make them proper lockdowns not this let's close all the place where people can get a release from all the stress. The only places where they have contained the virus are either islands with small populations e.g. NZ/Australia or countries with very strict state intervention.
First thing we could do is stop international travel - keep the virus contained here, isolate the vulnerable, contain students to their campus, allocate times when people can move around?

| It's utterly unforgivable that the new lockdown didn't happen 6 weeks ago when it was recommended by Sage.
How many more people have become infected and how many more people have died (and will still die) as a result of the governments inaction.
Having failed to stop movement quickly enough in March, they've done it again. It's an absolute scandal.
Add to that the timing, when most retail businesses do the bulk of their businesses and now have to close, when the "Christmas Rush" would normally be in full effect, I'm (almost) speechless.
The level of planning seems really good too - announcing a news conference at 4.0 and finally making it in front of the cameras after 6.30. He must have run out of room on the back of his "fag packet" response to the pandemic.
Shower and schmidt spring to mind.

They had to see the end of the 6 Nations game!!
Even the WHO say lockdowns don't work - all it will do is push the problem further on as did the last lockdown.
The only two good thing is schools remaining open - kids need to be in school - and a return of the original Furlough.
To give Boris his due he didn't want it but I suspect Hancock has leaked it to force him into it. Expect to see Hunt as health secretary before the end of the lockdown.
Sadly the lockdown is unlikely to finish in December - more like March.
