| funny how the British cyclists admission that he cheated in the first round of the team race has been largely ignored by the same media that hounded the badminton players out of the competition.

No so funny as the furore over the little 16 year old Chinese girl at the swimming as compared with the 15 year old Lithuanian girl who also won gold in an astonishing way but who happened to be trained in this country. That's what makes me proud to be British, our unbiased media.

He didn't cheat. He was probably guilty of gamesmanship but that's all. He broke no rules, although after these Games I would imagine the international cycling body will clarify the rules to make sure only something like mechanical failure is allowed for a restart!
Somebody should have schooled him in the art of answering media questions though before they let him loose as had the rules been more specific, that admission could have resulted in the gold being lost, which would have been a travesty.

| Having seen the 2 British competitors in the women's Heptathlon, I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that Kirkstaller was right all along, there is a God.

he admits to falling over on purpose due to a poor start, that would have cost GB a place in the next round, in what was a pre-planned tactic should they have a slow start. maybe not directly cheating, as not technically against the rules, but certainly not in the Olympic spirit.

there is no such thing as the "Olympic Spirit" find it in the UIC handbook and I'll admit it's existance, each team is allowed a restart in the event of a "malfunction" him getting a wobble because of handle bearings is a "malfunction".
they still won the event with a WORLD RECORD having competed in every round, hardly cheating.

| " We were saying if we have a bad start we need to crash to get a restart. I just crashed, I did it on purpose to get a restart, just to have the fastest ride. I DID IT. So it was all planned, really."
Signed his own suicide note me thinks.

The point is, he admitted to cheating. Michael Mansfield could'nt defend that.

no, he didn't admit to cheating, because they didn't cheat, what they did was within the rules.

rlThe IOC don't think it's cheating.rl Seems to me he just got of to a crappy wobbly start and once he realised what was happening he just went with it, knowing they'd get the restart. It's within the rules.
Not like they're showing Team GB much favouritism is it? Just ask rlPendleton & Varnish.rl
Absolutely loving the games at the mo, and with the boss on holiday next week I can see a few more days "working from home".

As others have said, it was within the rules and therefore cannot be cheating.
