| Scheduled to spend a couple of weeks there from this weekend. Anyone got some ideas on what to do / where to visit (that does not involve sea fishing!). Might visit Beer - that was nice.

Fine beer garden at rlThe Old Innrl in the middle of Dartmoor.

| If you do go to Slapton (and you should), there's also the Tank Monument, in recognition of the US servicement lost during rehersals for D-Day. Make sure you eat at least once at The Start Bay Inn, you'd struggle to find fresher seafood (the chef buys from a boat on the beach), certainly great value for money. A little further down the coast you'll come across Hallsands: a villae that was literally swept into the sea
Visit Totnes and walk around the town that told Tesco to fook off. Nearby you'll find Buckfastleigh, buy a bottle of Buckie and sit on a park bench, pretending to be Glaswegian
There are plenty of good coastal walks, google really can be your friend

| Brixham and Salcombe are very nice. Was in Brixham myself a few weeks ago. The breakwater there (which is huge) was built in WWII for the embarkation of a US Infantry division onto their ships for D-Day.

In fact, we are staying in what you will probably call East Devon (practically Somerset!) albeit on the South side. So, although I hope to get down that way a couple of times (at least) it won't be that accessible for us - seems quite a long, in time terms, drive. Neverthless, your suggestions sound good and I will note then down and hopefully get to some.
Are you aware of any seafood cafes on beaches in the area - I think there may be one in Dorset but not sure where?

Just don't get caught on Burgh Island
We went to South Devon in June and we visited Bigbury, Salcombe, Plymouth, Dartmoor and Torquay, the latter was more to say I've been and I've never seen a place with so many zimmer frames
There is a small village on Dartmoor called Widdecombe on the Moor which was very pretty. If you go to Plymouth try and eat at Capn Jaspers on the front. You have a choice of half a yard or a yard of hotdog.
Salcombe was lovely. We took the dogs on the beach around from the bay first, then drove to the main village (a lot of people walk) and had a superb pub lunch.

£19.25 for a crab?
I bought two lobsters and three crabs for that a couple of weeks ago
Lyme Regis is close and all bars and restaurants there are a rip-off. Mark Hix has a place at West Bay (Bridport) but if you do go to Beer, see Cyril's brother (skipper of Blue Lady) and buy your shellfish & fish from him. Cheap as chips.
I've no idea whether Hugh Fernley-Fishingstall has re-opened the Canteen in Axminster yet, following a fire last year

The Rugglestone Inn there is well worth a visit.
