| Never known for being good on detail.
Bojo has been telling porkies in Parliament (again) but, in a bizarre world, apparently, it's up to the Prime Minister of the day to deal with anyone in the telling lies in the HoP.
In fairness, it's just another episode in our current government, riding roughshod over the rulebook and doing whatever he pleases.
It's time for the opposition to puff their chests out and do something but, I'm not sure if they have it in them.

| The good thing is that you can tell when he is lying his mouth is moving. He has adopted the Trump philosophy of never admit or apologise when you are found out. It could be time to bring the American fact checker over to go through his many falsehoods.

I would agree with this - a huge majority brings issues of democracy - how many of the current restrictions have been imposed without any debate/vote in Parliament.

At the risk of sounding like my dad, standards are definitely slipping.
The stuff going on at the moment, just wouldn't have happened 10/20 years ago.
Is this due to the Tory majority or, it it more to do with who is in charge ?
Personally, although standards do inevitably slip, this is down to Bojo and his "carefree" style.
He is a poor mans Trump, although, this is probably better than the real thing.

I don't know, there's been some whoppers over the years, Blair and his weapons of mass destruction, John Major and the Maastricht treaty "its a minor alteration to the wording", Dennis Healey saying inflation was 12% when it was nearly 25 and of course uncle Ted Heath and the "common market".

I think it is the shamelessness and routine way that Johnson lies that have normalised it, to the point where it doesn’t really cause a stir. It is just what he does and it isn’t news because it isn’t new.
Your first example massively damaged Blair’s reputation and legacy. He’d prefer otherwise but he understands it, at least. Johnson’s reputation is as a liar so it can’t be harmed much more in that regard - it is baked in and weirdly widely accepted. It seems that he either doesn’t understand or doesn’t care about the distinction between fact and falsehood.
Big chunks of the UK and US electorates clearly see something that isn’t obvious to me in the likes of Trump and Johnson. ‘Charisma’ maybe? Or they miss something that is obvious to me. Or they just like liars now. At least Johnson is openly and transparently dishonest I suppose!

I feel like the catalyst was the financial crisis of 2007-08 and the fallout from it. Nobody in power offered a different or better vision for economic politics, opening the door for the populists and their easy slogans.

| I would agree about Johnson - he would be OK if he had a cabinet of the quality of say Thatcher with the intellectual power of the likes of Heseltine, Clark, Joseph, Lawson and the low cunning of a Tebbit. He could then be a cheerleader unfortunately he doesn't have the horsepower in the cabinet so we end up with the current shower and worse still with no challenge from the opposition its a free for all

Probably to do with the fact that he purged his party of anyone who dared to disagree with him and with it, many of the more "reasonable" Tories and we are now left with a buffoon doing as he pleases but, not actually delivering too much.
It's just lie after lie, false promise after false promise, much as we heard during the Brexit campaign and the hypocrisy over the Nurses and NHS staff, to whom he owes his life, is nothing short of disgraceful.

| The problem is he has filled his cabinet with many who are also strangers to the truth. We have in the last 24 hours had Gove and Patel both found to have misled but as per usual will not admit it. The problem for the latter is she is up against Cooper who will not let it drop.

Of the ones he purged - Hammond was a poor chancellor, Grieve nasty piece of work, Gaulke - hardly a star, Hunt in hindsight hadn't prepared the NHS for a crisis etc. Not sure what you would expect him to do when all of these deliberately tried to undermine the Brexit process - in the commercial world they would have gone very quickly.

It's no coincidence that under Bojo, his cabinet follow the same narrative.
The lack of a fully functioning HoP doesn't help but, when the PM can spot crap and tell lies, on a daily basis, without consequence, it's no wonder that everyone else follows.
During the GE campaign there was the downright dishonesty of the 50,000 new nurses, something which, this week Bojo claimed they were "on track" to achieve.
Also, it would appear that many of the media outlets seem frightened to call him out.
Maybe uncertainty over TV licensee funding is playing a part in this ?

When do you ever see him in the media or on TV - he never allows himself to exposed to rigor of questions - could you imagine Andrew Neil giving him a grilling?
On the nurses anyone in a commercial world will tell you retention is key constituent to growth if say there were 100,000 nurses but natural is 20k then if the new number is 130,000 nurses then you have added 50,000 nurses. Is that not what they said?

| I am sorry but new nurses can never include those already employed. If we used the same principle then should we not deduct those that have left from those retained. What was his promise on hospitals I guess this also included those in existence.

That was just the line used when their lies were so easily exposed.
A "retained" member of staff can never be described as "new" and to accept that kind of logic is just plain ridiculous.
You really have been taken in (again).
Lies, damn lies and statistics
