And in the real world getting on for one million people have needed the help of a food bank. Nice legacy for Dave and Gideon.
Here's a new sig for you:

| Inflation down again. The 'cost of living' myth put to bed.
As for food banks - when certain people are used to having to paying for something their whole life and then that something becomes free, of course people are going to want to take advantage of that.
If 'petrol banks' were about, they would be popular too.
Society's enjoyment of free stuff cannot be used as a yardstick for economic performance. That is absurd.
Why pay for something you can get for free!

| Or as the BBC's man put it yesterday (and I paraphrase): today's announcement is just a statistic, in reality the vast majority of people will see no difference at all and still be faced with job cuts, wages cuts and freezes, rising prices and instability.

Do you seriously contend that the rise in the use of foodbanks has been driven more by supply than demand?

How long have you been waiting to crow about that tiny triumph? Four years, as near as makes no difference? Meanwhile, in the civilised world, all major economies have left us trailing in the wake of their recoveries.

You mean I could fill up the XKR for free?
I'm in.
On a more serious note. The amount of people relying on food banks is shocking. I also suspect there are a fair few abusing the system, to get something for nothing.

You are entitled to suspect anything you wish, but it doesn't work like that, food banks aren't like shops available to everyone, there has to be an identified need and then vouchers are issued to be exchanged for essential supplies.

| You do know you have to be referred by someone like the JobCentre plus, Social Services, a Doctor and such like and in most cases provide evidence like your bank statement to get your food? Even then its for 3 days supply and you only get to go 3 times and then you can no longer be referred. So in fact you get 9 days worth of food out of 365. I suspect not many people do or can abuse them. If it wasn't for this government sanctioning a record number of claiments or delaying benefits (PiP is at 40 weeks delay atm) then there wouldn't be so many people needing to use food banks.

It's either the worst troll account on a forum polluted by William Eve or he really believes the drivel he posts.
If it's the second, I can't imagine how he sleeps at night.

I read in the Times recently that Labour didn't allow Job Centres to refer people to food banks for fear of negative press.
Terrible hey?

As I said, if something becomes free that people previously had to pay for then people will take advantage.
