Not sure, I mean I've been inland and the natives aren't always that friendly.
Was once driving my father and his flatmate across Spain from Benidorm (where they lived) to Santander to catch the ferry home for their two months back in blighty (my nominated job every year) and we stopped off at what was jokingly refered to as a "Service Station", in reality a bar in a nearby village somewhere right in the middle of Spain.
We wanted some dinner (it was dinner time not evening) and the bar had some tapas dishes on the counter so my dad asked, in his best Spanish acquired after several years living in Benidorm, the bar owner what was in each of the dishes, the bar owner shrugged his shoulders as he didn't understand my father, he turned to his flat mate and said "This bloody idiot doesn't even understand Spanish" to which he was reminded that we were now in Spain and not Benidorm Spain.
Apparently there's a difference.
