My laptop battery has died after 2 years and looking for replacement. Laptop is dell inspiron 1545, part number GW240. Prices on dell website look dear (£100+), and have found plenty of cheaper options from £30ish on eBay/amazon/play.
Has anyone any experience of buying batteries for this type of laptop? Worried if I go really cheap it will damage laptop, but don't want to pay price for dell branded battery..

Go for a mid priced battery on eBay from a seller with good feedback. |

How difficult is it to change the battery? My battery, on a similar/same Dell, has been broken for over a year now. Mine is stuck on 0%, so have to run off mains all the time.

Laptop batteries can just be popped out of the bottom of the case usually I think. Nothing more labour intensive than one or two screws. |

usually not even a screw, a spring bound slider, possibly at opposite ends of the battery.
one thing to watch is loss of power to the bios if the laptop battery is failing |

I had 2 batteres with a Dell I had years ago, they popped out like Saddened mentioned. Can't see anything obvious with this one though.

Laptops, the same as desktops have a battery that keeps the BIOS going but the worst that can happen is you loose any customisations, time and date.

Piece of cake, two slides to hold open and it pops out, hard drives are cheap and just as easy to install.

No option to make a restore disk?
Dell OEM disks are available on eBay pretty cheap. |

Just looking for a piece of software for work that allows you to convert numerous word/excel files etc to one PDF.
Ideally looking at around £20 a licence.
If anyone can point me in the right direction that'd be great.
